里科山: 周边有什么、如何前往、何时最合适 · 2026年

Residents live directly beneath active mining slopes, where pervasive rock dust and cooperative ore transport determine daily ventilation and walking routines.

Cerro Rico remains an active mining mountain above Potosí, defined by ongoing subterranean ore extraction and a dominant historical silver trade.

Cerro Rico, also called Sumaq Urqu, rises directly over Potosí as the primary source of silver that once supplied the Spanish Empire. Early Spanish extraction reshaped the peak through mountaintop removal, sending vast shipments of Andean bullion across the Atlantic. Today the mountain preserves that colonial silhouette while remaining an operational industrial landmark rather than a preserved historical monument.

Underground shafts still employ thousands of cooperative miners whose labor sustains the urban economy. Daily drilling exposes workers to heavy rock dust without adequate protective gear, resulting in chronic silicosis and shortened life spans. Continuous internal tunneling causes the summit to sink steadily each year, prompting emergency cement reinforcement and placement on the UNESCO list of endangered heritage sites.

事实信息
  • Cerro Rico is also known in the region as Cerro Potosí and Sumaq Urqu.
  • Spanish colonial authorities shipped the majority of Andean silver extracted from the mountain to metropolitan Spain.
  • Early colonial extraction sheared off the original summit through deliberate mountaintop removal.
  • Engineers injected ultra-light cement into the summit to stabilize a deep sinkhole formed by interior tunneling.
  • UNESCO placed the mountain on its endangered heritage list because uncontrolled operations threaten site stability.
