The town hall stands on Rathausplatz along the central ring boulevard, housing both the municipal administration and the regional assembly. Master builder Friedrich von Schmidt executed the Gothic Revival complex on former parade grounds after urban expansion rendered the older medieval council quarters inadequate. The towering stone structure asserted civic authority directly opposite imperial institutions.
