Residents in Santa Coloma live beside early medieval granite masonry while commuting daily along the parish valley to central Andorra la Vella.
Constructed from local granite and schist bonded with lime mortar, the church remains the oldest surviving ecclesiastical structure in the country. The original rectangular nave connects to a tall bell tower with a south-facing entrance. Sculpted stone heads featuring pronounced beards and chins decorate the window frames along the upper tower walls, preserving Romanesque craftsmanship in the valley.
The interior walls once displayed Romanesque fresco cycles painted by the Master of Santa Coloma. Collectors and foreign institutions held the detached murals abroad for decades before their return to the national exhibition hall. Inside the church, visitors find the historic altarpiece alongside restoration work by architect Cèsar Martinell, while the round tower appears stamped on local euro coins.
