The double-deck cantilever span links Queens directly to East Midtown.

The Queensboro Bridge stands as a multi-span steel cantilever structure over the East River. It connects Long Island City in Queens with East Midtown and the Upper East Side in Manhattan, passing directly over Roosevelt Island along the way. Residents on the Manhattan end often refer to the crossing as the Fifty-Ninth Street Bridge.

Municipal authorities planned rapid transit lines and multiple streetcar services across the decks in earlier decades. Streetcar operations eventually ended, leaving lower roadways and elevated tracks repurposed for vehicular and bus traffic.
