A compact Lancaster County borough shaped by quarrying history and agricultural tradition.
Quarryville originated on Providence Township ground held by John Groff. A stone quarry opened adjacent to the initial settlement, drawing the expanding labor force that gave the borough its name. Local memory maintains that laborers returned from a midday meal to discover the excavation flooded. That deep pit remains full of water, anchoring the southern Lancaster County settlement to its original extractive trade.
