Про місце

Historic plant collections thrive beside active urban neighborhoods in central Brooklyn.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden sits directly adjacent to Prospect Park and the Brooklyn Museum. Landscape designers Olmsted Brothers laid out the grounds, which hold specialized plantings, conservation projects, and a research herbarium. Residents nearby treat the grounds as a quiet outdoor retreat from dense borough apartment blocks.

City leaders originally designated portions of the site as an ash dump before creating the sanctuary under the Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences. Planners secured land along Flatbush Avenue, commissioning McKim, Mead and White for institutional structures while establishing permanent horticultural collections for public science.
