A story about the Work and Travel program How did I find out about the program? Seeing America… it’s a long-held dream. Perhaps my favorite movies and series filmed by American studios, English songs, and even the beloved GTA had a big influence on this;) I found out about the Work and Travel program quite a long time ago, while in middle school, I think, like most people, through YouTube;) Since then, my recommendations have been perfectly tuned, and I often got lost watching videos about the States. But, watching the beautiful picture from computer and phone screens, this big dream seemed like something very distant and unattainable, something exclusively for the “chosen ones,” the “rich,” the “specially gifted,” in general, not like everyone else… or… not like me… But that was until a certain point. Then I found out that an acquaintance of mine was in America and, as it turned out, through this program! What a surprise it was! He could do it! That means it’s possible! Why am I any worse? After looking at his photos, supplemented by a bunch of interesting stories about the experience gained at the workplace, the town he lived in, and the second bright part of the program - traveling, I realized - I need to act! This is not a dream, this is a desire and a goal! So what did I learn about the Work and Travel program? Work and Travel is a program that brings together thousands, tens of thousands of students from all over the world to the USA during summer vacation, a program that gives you the opportunity not only to immerse yourself in “American life,” but also to learn about a number of other nationalities, their culture and everyday life, as well as introduce them to your own native culture and, likely, break many stereotypes and prejudices. The coolest thing about the program, in my opinion, is its duration, because during this time you can really get to know a new country, its residents, the peculiarities of their mentality, their traditions, as well as the division of the program into two parts, actually, Work and Travel. To work hard all summer so that with money earned independently, you can think through all the details and go on an unforgettable trip! And how much beauty you can see: The main symbol of America, reflecting the entire essence of the American mentality – the Statue of Liberty, the lights of the never-sleeping Times Square, the most beautiful and well-known Central Park, the tallest building in New York – the majestic Empire State Building, the beautiful Brooklyn Bridge, without exaggeration, a WONDER of nature – Niagara Falls, the visiting card of the state of Arizona - the spectacular and majestic Grand Canyon, and the biggest dream – the most famous bridge in the world, that very embodiment of beautiful San Francisco – the Golden Gate Bridge! Of course, a huge desire to visit the heart of the state of Massachusetts – Boston, the great, oldest university in the USA – Harvard University, to visit Los Angeles, to get acquainted with the main embodiment of the world film industry – Hollywood, to walk along the famous Walk of Fame, to be a guest of the most famous amusement parks in the world – Disneyland and Disneyworld, Universal Studios and, I am convinced, many, many more, no less beautiful and wonderful places! What do I hope to learn and achieve by becoming a participant in the program? Of course, first of all, to get to know the country, its local residents, to learn the peculiarities of their culture from the inside, to make friends and acquaintances from other countries, to improve my spoken English, to plunge into the world of independence, responsibility, household management, making important decisions without anyone’s help, TRAVELING and, of course, a bunch of new emotions and impressions! How will participating in the program help my future career? I am currently a second-year university student majoring in Tourism. I think that participating in the program will make a huge contribution to my d

Navigating the studio lot means working around live entertainment stages and active production schedules in the hills north of Hollywood.
Production lots and studio operations define the grounds at Universal City.
Carl Laemmle founded the business by opposing the Edison Trust monopoly, consolidating several early moving picture operations, and building a centralized base. Production shifted westward to the Cahuenga Pass to establish vast outdoor sets and sound stages. The lot opened its gates to the public early, establishing tourist access alongside operational filming.

Early management introduced credits on screen and transformed nameless players into recognized public stars. The enterprise built integrated distribution networks without buying cinemas, relying on distinct release tiers to supply independent theaters. Archival fires destroyed much of the early film catalog, making print records central to studying the studio lot.

Our last day of work under the offer was September 15th, but due to the approaching Hurricane Florence, many vacationers left and there was no work at the hotel. Everyone living in the danger zone was strongly advised to evacuate, but like true Russians, we stocked up on juice and sweets and sat in front of the TV, waiting for the hurricane (my high school safety teacher would have had a heart attack if he knew about this). But the hurricane never reached us; on our last workday, we just went to work and said goodbye to our managers and the guys we had worked with all summer. For the last two days of our stay in Virginia Beach, we walked along the beach, drank coffee, and just enjoyed the moment. On the evening of the 17th, we started our journey. Virginia Beach - Orlando - Miami - New York. There were five of us, and we went by car. It turned out that none of us had planned the route taking into account the hurricane in North and South Carolina. The main highway and some other roads were closed; they were flooded in places due to heavy rainfall. For about 20 hours, we zigzagged in search of an open road, periodically receiving GPS notifications like, 'Beep, beep, evacuate this area immediately, flooding will occur here in a few hours!' It was scary; there was no gas at the gas stations. The Americans we asked for directions told us to wait a couple of days in a nearby hotel, but again, the Russian spirit inside us said, 'Are you kidding? Orlando is waiting for us, we can't just sit in some hotel just because everything is flooded and the roads are closed!' And so, tired and sleepy, we reached Orlando and checked into a hotel. Here is a cool life hack: if you worked at a hotel like we did, ask your manager for a corporate discount; it will save you a decent amount of money. On the second day, we went to Universal Studios. These are gorgeous attractions, the whole atmosphere, the scenery... simply the embodiment of a childhood dream. The park will appeal to everyone, both fans of science fiction films like me, and those who are not thrilled with sci-fi, like my friend. By the end of the day, there were no lines; we were a little tired, but we still went for a second, and sometimes a third, round on the rides.

If I were to tell you about my travels, my friend Sam and I headed west. It wasn't easy to decide, given the short timeframe—her return ticket was 10 days earlier than mine. We managed to plan everything correctly and set off for San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. It was truly an adventure of a lifetime. We ran through airports, buses, and subways. We bought bus tickets directly on Greyhound online (it's much cheaper that way) and asked the station staff to print them for us. In San Francisco, we left my friend's luggage, bought an 11 PM ticket, and went to see the Golden Gate Bridge. We had no idea how to get there, how to get back to the station, and we were short on time. Despite that, we went. We were afraid we might be late and didn't know the bus schedule. But most importantly, we managed to take photos. We accidentally met a traveler from Dubai; he asked us to take his picture, and we told him, 'You know, we're in a hurry, we don't have much time.' He started asking questions and said he had a rental car and would be happy to drop us off where we needed to go. If it weren't for him, we definitely would have been late. We hadn't eaten since 7 AM and were starving; food wasn't included in the plane ticket price. We had half an hour left, we looked for shops, but didn't see anything. We ran into a restaurant—it looked upscale—and you should have seen our appearance: shorts, sneakers, a hoodie, and a bag in our hands. The waiter looked at us and was actually startled, giving us a look like, 'What are you doing here?' As for tickets, don't do what we did. Tickets from SF to Las Vegas were sold out, so we had to go through Los Angeles. We had to go to LA anyway at the end, since our return ticket to Boston was from LA. In Los Angeles, I found Palak from India on a website; he had recently moved from New York for work. He wrote that he would be happy to host us. It even turned out that he was in Vegas on the same day we arrived. He met us, took us to the city center, and even took our luggage to Los Angeles. Yes, yes, I trusted everyone, even though I was seeing him for the first time in my life, but my intuition didn't let me down. We walked around Las Vegas. A fantastic city. You walk into one hotel and forget about everything. Casinos, Bellagio, Caesars Palace... September 8th... In the morning, Palak met us in Los Angeles. Everything you've seen on TV is now before your eyes. Universal Pictures, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Hollywood, the best Disneyland in the world. We took a tour where they show the homes of all the Hollywood stars in Beverly Hills, like Bruno Mars, Johnny Depp, Avril Lavigne, Tom Cruise, Jennifer Lopez, the house where the great singer Michael Jackson died, the hotel where Whitney Houston said goodbye to life, and many others. September 11th... From the trip, I arrived in my native Hyannis, and my friend went to New York. After staying there for 3-4 days, I felt sad that all the students had left—some home, some to travel—and all the tourists had dispersed. I packed all my things, didn't wait for Saltanat, whom I was waiting for, said goodbye to everyone individually, and decided to leave. Everyone came to wish me luck and gave me souvenirs. It was very sweet. It was sad to realize that it was all over. When Matt and Katherine saw me off for the last time, Matt had tears in his eyes. He said, 'Wherever you are, I will pray that everything goes well for you'... Most importantly, I bought a ticket from Boston to New York, but I thought the latest one from Hyannis to Boston was at 10, but it turned out to be at 8. It was already 6 PM. Thanks to Mr. Richard, who, while picking me up, reminded me and suggested buying the ticket first instead of picking up the luggage. I managed to fit it into 2 hours, did everything necessary, stopped by Dunkin' and Stop and Shop to say goodbye to my colleagues, and was at the station 10 minutes before departure. The feeling that I might never return here and might never
The next stop was the great and star-studded Los Angeles. The city is simply incredible in size, but it was clear to us that size isn't everything. A second stereotype about the USA was broken. Or rather, not even a stereotype, I just expected more from this city. The city itself didn't stand out, and it didn't smell very good either. Hoping to see something interesting, we took a tour of the most famous spots in LA: Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive, and the main streets. It was very engaging and interesting, because few people can boast of having seen the house where Michael Jackson died, where Britney Spears shaved her head, where Brad Pitt started working, and which gym Arnold Schwarzenegger trained in. The famous Walk of Fame. Let's just say it doesn't look as good everywhere as it does in movies or pictures. The best part of the walk is, of course, near Madame Tussauds, where the biggest stars are gathered and a crowd of tourists passes by every minute. My stay in Los Angeles is remembered not for the city itself, but for the Six Flags amusement park and, of course, Universal Studios!!! Let's start in order. We spent the entire second day at Six Flags; I can call it a kind of kingdom of roller coasters. Having spent 12 hours there, I think I have enough adrenaline in my blood for a year. It was an incredible experience consisting only of emotional bursts. After the first coaster, I couldn't recover for an hour, as it was the scariest ride I've ever been on. In 55 seconds of pure "fun," there was a 90-degree drop, riding upside down, flashes of fire, incredible speed, and FEAR, pleading, screaming, and the loss of my sunglasses. It's a good thing we didn't buy a VIP ticket, because between the coasters we stood in line for an hour or an hour and a half, which helped me calm down and normalize my heartbeat. This terrible fear very slowly turned into fun and amusement. I will never forget the surge of emotions in this wonderful place. On the third day, we visited Universal Studios. We bought VIP tickets because we had heard about 3-hour lines. Universal Studios simply turned my imagination and my mind upside down. I saw things that don't exist, I felt the unreal, I saw spectacles I couldn't even suspect existed. Leaving another ride or show, I thought nothing could surprise me anymore, but how wrong I was—again and again, something new and interesting. My brain had long forgotten about Los Angeles itself and the roller coasters by that point. I had a desire to just stay there and live forever. In the evening, we took a 1.5-hour tour of the studio itself: they revealed the secrets of filmmaking, showed us pavilions and sets, and gave us a lot of information about cinema in general. Universal is in my heart!

After receiving my last paycheck, packing my bags, and saying a difficult goodbye to everyone I was close to, I left. It is very, very hard to leave a place where you are happy and loved. Tip: Buy tickets in advance! Tickets are cheaper on Wednesdays than on other days. The first city I decided to visit according to my plan was Orlando for one simple reason: the Harry Potter park! Arriving at the Greyhound bus terminal and checking my hotel location on Google Maps again (because I booked in advance, the room cost me $28 per night), I headed into the city. Tip: Greyhound bus terminals have outlets, Wi-Fi, restrooms, water fountains, luggage storage, and benches. They are open 24/7, so if you have nowhere to go before your next trip or nowhere to go at all, you know where you can stay. In general, a traveler always has a choice: take a taxi, saving time but spending money; or spend time searching for and waiting for buses, but getting there for $1.25-2.50. No matter how attractive the taxi option looks, I recommend using buses, as you will see a lot of unusual and amazing things. After reaching the hotel and washing up, I went to look for a supermarket. A nasty surprise awaited me here: it turns out there are no Walmarts in big cities. Some say it kills other grocery chains, others say Walmart takes up too much space; in short, I was left without my favorite snacks and ate at Wendy's. Fortunately, I had a supply of bananas and apples in my bag from South Carolina. Disney or Universal Studios? For me, the answer was obvious! Arguments? Disneyland costs $200+, while a ticket to both Universal parks is $145. In Disneyland, the rides are for kids and not scary; at Universal, you will scream like crazy. It took a long time to get to Disneyland, while Universal was right nearby, a 20-30 minute walk. And yes, Disneyland didn't have the 2 Harry Potter parks (Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade), a Marvel theme park, and huge, cool roller coasters. Tip: The vast majority of hotels in Orlando provide shuttle buses to Universal Studios, Disneyland, and the Orlando Aquatic Center completely free of charge. This usually happens at 9, 10, and 11 a.m. If you could store happiness in jars, I would have made a huge supply that day. King's Cross Station, Diagon Alley, Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes, Quidditch supplies, Ollivanders wands, scarves, sweaters and ties of all houses, a huge chocolate frog and a pack of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans, the dragon on the roof of Gringotts Bank breathing fire every 15 minutes, the Hogwarts Express (which I rode 3 or 4 times), Hogsmeade, butterbeer, a mediocre lunch at the Three Broomsticks, the Hog's Head pub, owl post, incredible rides simulating dragons, amazing and realistic sets inside Hogwarts, endless souvenirs, atmospheric surroundings and decorations, and Hogwarts itself, after all! If you understand what I mean, you can easily imagine my state of mind at that time. You can ride any attraction as many times as you want; all that is required is to wait in line. I was lucky; there was a little rain that day, so there weren't many people, and I was able to ride, take pictures, and walk around the park to my heart's content. I wish the same to everyone who comes to this magical city! In the park, I accidentally met 4 people from Kazan who also came here 7 years ago through the Work and Travel program! And in the evening at the hotel, I met two girls from Novgorod, whom I would later meet in Washington! After chatting and making friends with the receptionist, I found out that his brother lives in Miami. I immediately told him about my future plans and my desire to go to that city and asked if I could stay with his brother. To which I received a positive answer and an offer to drive me to the bus station. Did I ever mention that I'm lucky?)

Arriving in Orlando, we were in shock. The heat is incredible. Such contrasts: NY-DC and Orlando... We decided to go shopping on the first day. Goodbye money. There are so many outlets here, tons of them. I finally bought myself some Converse, aaaah) We got very lucky with the hotel. We walk to Universal, water parks are nearby, cafes everywhere, a pool, and very cool staff. There are 3 Russian guys working here. :D The next day we went to Universal Studios. My dream came true. I am so happy. Honestly. It's just unrealistically cool. The atmosphere in the park is great. Everything is themed after famous cartoons and movies. You end up in the world of cinema, aaaah. I love this park. I can only imagine what will happen to me at Islands of Adventure!))) I'll probably have a heart attack there. Every attraction here is tied to another cinematic masterpiece, and after waiting in line, you finally find yourself on the other side of the screen... The Simpsons ride is very cool. Even the most ardent roller coaster haters will still have to ride it, and also almost become lunch for a giant-sized Maggie. And the Transformers ride is unforgettable, breathtaking 4D. They put you in a car, well, like on a roller coaster, the lights go out, and it beeeegins. You feel like that robot. Yes, you can help save the world. And then a Decepticon appears and wants to kill you, but Bumblebee smashes him. Drops of water hit you, you get shaken from side to side. Aaa. I can say with confidence this is my favorite attraction at Universal park. Mummy. A coaster that will really rattle your nerves. Entering the building, you find yourself in a mesmerizing Egyptian setting. Dim lighting, beautiful drawings and paintings on the walls, huge statues, traps, and interesting boxes. Then on the second floor, you are put into a car and you set off on an incredible journey. A huge number of special effects. You stop abruptly and think it's over, but out of nowhere, scarabs appear—yes, you know they aren't real, but it's scaaary. Or you plunge suddenly down into total darkness. Aaa. A great adventure.) There are many, many more attractions and shows, but it's pointless to describe everything; you need to visit them yourself. Other very good attractions: Terminator, the roller coaster. The others are also not bad, but these are the best in my opinion. I sincerely envy the people who will go to this park for the first time... I highly recommend going to Hard Rock. They cook insanely delicious food. I couldn't eat anymore, but I wanted to because it was amazingly tasty. Mwah.))) The staff, the atmosphere, the music—everything is top-notch. I liked it. And they also gave me a glass, such a nice surprise.)

The last day in this wonderful city… I really don't want to leave this noisy, fun, festive town… So, the last day, where could we go?? Of course, to Universal Studios, but this time to the Islands of Adventure park. As you know from my previous posts, this is the park I've probably wanted to visit my whole life, my conscious life)) Why? The answer is simple: HARRY POTTER. But I won't start the story with that, I think Harry deserves a separate, colorful post…^^ This park is radically different from the main Universal park. Here everything, absolutely everything, is based on famous movies… Whole streets of pure joy. You walk along and end up in the world of comics, and you really feel like an actor who has stepped into a cartoon world. It's so cool and incredible to feel like someone else, to belong to another world, not like ours… mmm…there's also a whole Jurassic Park…but I don't want to describe it in detail, as I've never been a fan of that movie, and it didn't leave much of an impression on me. It's all done really well, of course, but it's just not my thing…=/ I also really fell in love with the little town from the movie "The Cat in the Hat". Do you remember those terribly obedient kids, the incredibly smart cat, and the amazingly quick Things? Yesss, that's exactly where you want to eat all the buildings and structures like Hansel and Gretel with the witch's house. And it's so funny to see little kids walking around in those cute "Thing 1", "Thing 2", etc. t-shirts)) it looks so cool and sweet)) And, drumroll please, we reached the sweetest part of this post… WORLD OF HARRY POTTER Well…where to start. It's actually so hard to convey my impressions of this unrealistically magical and most desired place of mine… Everything is so realistic and perfectly executed, there's nothing to complain about. And the staff, walking around in robes from different schools, were casting spells around you, dancing, fighting… Everything is just as it should be, as it must be. This is an unforgettable place. On the street, there's the "Zonko's" shop of the mischievous Weasley brothers. And Ollivander's wand shop, where you can feel like a wizard. They put on such a show there. You can't help but believe in magic… Hagrid's hut is as calm as ever, with a pumpkin :D And also meeting all of Hagrid's animal friends)) Mwah And finally…of course, Hogwarts! It's just gorgeous, simply the best place on earth. I want to live there :D Walking through the castle, you meet the famous trio, and they are like real, right in front of you…aaaah. You enter all the famous and secret rooms. (I can't even stop myself from squealing in my head like a fool right now). And the paintings, oh! those paintings. How I dreamed of seeing them. They talk to you, joke, laugh. Isn't it a miracle???!!!) And then you are immersed in the incredible, virtual world of Harry. You fly with him away from a Dragon, play Quidditch…aaaah, how I want to go back!!! I can't believe I was really there. After all, I dreamed about it for so long, and boom, it came true. How? I want, I want more. How I envy, very, very much, those people who will go to this park for the first time… Well…I left this park, but now I am definitely not a Muggle… not in this life ;) p.s.: https://www.universalorlando.com/harrypotter/?sourc.. http://vk.com/away.php?to=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.universalorlando.com%2Fharrypotter%2F%3Fsource%3Dprtnr.unistudios.web.topnav&post=36460921_3738
