Konum hakkında

Chelyabinsk functions as a heavy industrial capital east of the Ural Mountains, shaped by sprawling metallurgical plants and transport hubs.

The urban layout reflects heavy industrial development, centered on the Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Combinate, tractor factories, and tube rolling mills along the Miass River. Vast industrial zones form distinct quarters separated by transit routes. Major consumer manufacturing, such as pasta processing and footwear production, operates alongside primary smelting, sustaining steady working shifts across the city.

Daily transit depends on routed passenger vans alongside municipal trolleybuses and streetcars. Navigating these vans requires waving from curbside stops and calling out drop-off points directly to drivers. Commuters pass physical fare forward through seated passengers and relay change in reverse along crowded aisles. This informal system connects peripheral residential blocks to central hubs much faster than regular municipal bus routes.

Cultural life centers on classical performing institutions and regional history. The Glinka State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre anchors the stage scene alongside chamber music halls. At the Chelyabinsk Regional Museum, collections preserve ancient steppe metallurgical artifacts alongside a massive local meteorite fragment. Major rail corridors connect the central station toward Siberian routes and western transit hubs.

STORY 3: ABOUT TEARFUL CREAM, MOOING, AND OTHER SECRETS OF CAREER GROWTH

Story 3: About tearful cream, mooing, and other secrets of career growth There is nothing harder than returning to Russia and getting back to your usual routine after spending 3 and a half months making ice cream on the ocean shore. Let's be honest, my brain atrophied a little during that wonderful time. But on the bright side, I've become a real homemaker and can now promote my culinary creations on Instagram with hashtags like #moretocome, #cakesonorderchelyabinsk, and all that. And if you come over to visit, I might treat you to waffle cookies, brownies, and 50s-style milkshakes. A mediocre evening, I agree. But you have to put your skills to use somewhere. Chap.1 It’s a small world Life hack: for most Americans, there is Moscow and then the rest of Russia, so if you aren't from the capital, but, for example, from Chelyabinsk, the best answer to the question: “Where do you live in Russia?” is the phrase: “Close to Siberia.” In principle, it works for any city. And so, at the very beginning of my career as an “ice-cream lady,” Dan, my boss, asked me that very question. I said: – Not far from Siberia. – Aaa, we adopted kids from there… A city like… What was it… Nizhny Tagil… Four of them. In '93. From Tagil. Surprise. That’s how I found my “almost fellow countrymen”: Mike and Nick (Sergey and Stepan in the distant past). It’s just a pity that a conversation in Russian never happened. Chap.2 Live and learn In short, I had no one to speak my native language with there. I had to adapt to the team. Life hack: even if you know what LOL means, how Present Perfect is formed, and have heard a thing or two about irregular verbs… It won't help you.)) Just kidding. I really had to learn a lot. For some reason, in school, I never wrote down “ladle,” “walnut,” the translation of “replenish,” “sample,” “grasshopper,” or the meaning of the phrase “take care” in my English vocabulary notebook. God bless Dan for his patience!!! Just… - When a customer asks for a “Lid,” and you, like a one-year-old child, ask: “What is that?” - When a pyramid of whipped cream falls in a massive blob onto the marble floor - When you write “whipped cream” as “weeped cream” - When you need to make a “Cow” milkshake and instead of “cow” you say “coo”… Naturally, no one understands you… And you moo “Mooooooo” across the whole shop I would have fired myself. Deported myself and banned my re-entry. Chap3. Love people Working with people is interesting, of course, but there are always some, to put it mildly, peculiar ones among them. Story about my “favorite.” Customer. In short: - First, for some reason, he gave me the book “How to Marry for Money” (“Olga is just doing the wrong thing,” he thought). - Then he decided to draw an ice cream cone and bring his masterpiece as a gift to our establishment. - They took a photo of me with it. - Result: photo in the newspaper. This is it – fame!!! #usatoday #tobecontinued

Better late than never

South Africa is out of this world. No, really. It’s just trendy to say that about something that really hits you hard. Africa hits you in every sense of the word. I don't want to bore you with descriptions of nature and my sighs about how beautiful it is here, because you, my dear reader, will understand it yourself as soon as you arrive. I will be tactless at times, please forgive me in advance, for by nature I am extremely emotional and bipolar: either happy and cheerful, or in complete apathy. South Africa is also bipolar, but more on that later. I want to make this blog as useful as possible for those who are just planning to come here. You will learn all the realities of this country and this magical city - Cape Town. Briefly about me: my name is Kristina, I am 22 years old, I am from a small village of Novoorst in the Orenburg region, but I studied in Chelyabinsk. Last year I received a linguist diploma at South Ural State University, and over the last 3 years I spent 8 months in America and 8 months in Italy. Work, exchange studies, travel, you name it, and now it's time to challenge myself, to see the world beyond the beaten paths like America and Europe... Just kidding, I just went to my favorite IEC and asked them to send me somewhere, I wanted new sensations, adventures, and another dose of adrenaline. And here I am, two months later. I am starting this blog 1.5 weeks into my stay in Cape Town, because only now did the inspiration and time come to reflect on things and draw some first conclusions. But even such a short time here has been so intense that one could write about it endlessly. Cape Town makes you fall in love at first sight. Johannesburg, for instance, didn't make me fall in love, because we (I was flying with a girl named Irina, also from Chelyabinsk, we live together here now and are becoming friends) first flew there and had a crazy 1.5-hour layover (I beg you, don't repeat this, it's almost impossible to make it). Plus, before that, there was a 14 (!!!) hour layover in Abu Dhabi, and we weren't just tired, we looked like zombies. Irina's luggage arrived in Cape Town two days after us. Things like this happen often here. Welcome to South Africa. Next, you must follow this, my dear reader, when you find yourself at the airport in Johannesburg: DO NOT GIVE YOUR BOARDING PASS TO ANYONE, EVEN IF THE PERSON IS IN UNIFORM AND RESEMBLES AN AIRPORT EMPLOYEE. The head of our IEC, Ksenia, is an amazing woman; she prepares you for the trip better than I've ever been prepared for anything in my life. That's why I knew about such people who take your boarding pass, walk you to the gate, and don't give it back until you pay. This is Africa, baby; to them, you are a light-skinned tourist with your mouth open from African beauty and a full wallet of money (even if that's not the case, I flew here myself, I know). Locals will try to make money off you in any, believe me, ANY available and unavailable way. They couldn't squeeze money out of me, I am a tough Russian person ;D especially since you don't need any help at this airport if you just look at what is written on the signs. At the airport in Cape Town, everything wasn't as "fun," and a man with our names on a sign delivered us safely to the hostel. And at that moment, when we were driving from the airport to the city late at night, I fell in love with Cape Town. Sia – Chandelier was playing full blast on the radio, and we saw the lights of night-time Cape Town for the first time... Such moments are etched in your heart forever. Even now, listening to this song, I get goosebumps and see night-time Cape Town before my eyes... I’m gonna liiiiive like tomorrow doesn’t exiiiiiiiiist... Yes, that is exactly how Cape Towners live - one beautiful sunny day at a time.

America. 4 years later.

Cool. I stumbled upon this resource today and saw my blog. I expected everything to be dead, but it has only become better and more convenient. I found out that the site for CMO was made by Art. Lebedev Studio, and it shows. I have a strong desire to continue writing. It's been 4 years, and I am still grateful for Work and Travel. 3 seasons in the States really changed my life. Out of inertia, I finished university. The last year was very difficult: my desire to study was completely gone, and thoughts about the future worried me the most. I liked what I did in America. I liked the cuisine, I liked the fast food, I liked working the American way, with an hourly rate, responsibility, and results. While still in my 5th year, I wanted to open a Subway in my city. I had no idea how to do it. I didn't know what a business of my own was. I didn't know where to get the money. But I had a goal. I wanted to earn a lot and do what I love. In April 2011, our Subway opened in Chelyabinsk. We were the tenth restaurant in Chelyabinsk and the 200th in Russia. The success of the brand was staggering; we grew quickly and were in the black from the very first month. There was a lot of work back then: I spent 18 hours a day at work. It was an endless stream of experience: experience in hiring and managing people, experience in resolving conflict situations, experience in negotiations, experience in working with suppliers and contractors, experience, experience, experience. The first money started rolling in. Big purchases. It was cool. After a couple of years, the work became boring. The restaurant worked calmly even without my personal intervention. Prosperity began to affect my weight. I started learning foreign languages and traveling. Many interesting people appeared in my life, you know, those with burning eyes and ambitions. At the same time, my relationship with my partner deteriorated. We almost never saw each other, only splitting the money from time to time. In August 2012, I started working on a new project: Dodo Pizza (dodopizza.ru or sila-uma.ru). A young and ambitious company, a confident and systematic leader, an approach unusual for the Russian market. Back then, we were won over by everything - the prospects, the massiveness of the market, the originality. We had resources, we had time, we were expecting golden mountains. Everything turned out differently. The situation quickly brought us to our senses. The hired managers were not ready for such a volume of work, they lacked experience, but they were faced with quite adult tasks. The market refused to swallow us whole; it started with crumbs. Resources were dwindling like the Yellow River in the dry season, and it was just a pity to waste time.

My America or the place where doors open autoMAGICally D

"When you dream, the whole universe conspires to help you" Paulo Coelho, "The Alchemist" Yes, I have dreamed of going to America for as long as I can remember. The first time was when I found out about the existence of Disneyland) And here I am) Naturally, the emotions are overwhelming. Sometimes even tears of happiness. When a dream of several years comes true, it's indescribable… May 22 00:30 Only now have I truly felt that the adventure has begun: I am at Domodedovo Airport. I am alone, I don't know where to go, I approach everyone, and they all send me to some other places, nothing is clear. But I'm not upset, I still have plenty of time before the flight) Now I'm sitting in some cafe, drinking coffee so I don't fall asleep. Although… I wouldn't have fallen asleep without it anyway, I'm too excited about the upcoming flight) My first experience) But for some reason, I'm not afraid at all. Right now, I'm only afraid of one thing: that I won't be able to understand my employer. So I'm sitting with a dictionary, looking up new words, expanding my vocabulary) 11:00 We are already at Heathrow. The flight to London went great) No incidents) I met some guys from Chelyabinsk!) I didn't even know I wasn't flying alone that day! I'm very happy about it, because it would have taken me a long time to figure out how to get from Terminal 1 to Terminal 4... We had to take a special bus. I wasn't sure until the very end, but in the end, I just trusted the guys. In any case, we had plenty of time. We've already walked around the shops here, but I'm so tired that the only thing I want right now is to get some sleep. That's what I'm going to do. 18:00 We are in America!! I still can't believe it) I'm so happy) Friends picked me up from the airport and we immediately drove to their place in Philadelphia, I'll stay with them for a week, and only after that will I go to Florida) I calculated and it turned out that today was 10 hours longer for me) After all, a day can have more than 24 hours!))

Pancakes, cathedral, and university.

My German friend Sonja loved the condensed milk so much that the next morning we whipped up a plate of oladyi! We bought condensed milk, chocolate spread, and invited Ilyukha over. In short, everything was just right) We ate like horses! And then we went for a walk, feeling happy. First, we visited the Catholic cathedral. There was a service at 1:00 PM, and we wanted to see it. Before that, we went to the national library. We found Dostoevsky, a guide to Moscow, and Chelyabinsk on a world map. The Catholic cathedral is very beautiful. The service was short but pleasant. I definitely want to visit an Orthodox church in Cape Town. There is a large university in Cape Town, consisting of various campuses and buildings. Free buses for students run between the buildings. Today we pretended we were studying in Africa and took a ride around the different campuses) It's beautiful, of course. You can see that Europeans had a hand in it here; everything is orderly, clean, and just right! Like real students, we visited the most important place at any university - the canteen! The prices are low, and the food is tasty. It's winter in Cape Town now, as I already wrote, so everyone is studying! Students are wandering everywhere, and lectures are going on. We found an amphitheater-style lecture hall and had a photoshoot) In short, walking around local educational institutions is a pleasant thing to do! Later, we climbed a mountain, admired the view, caught the bus, found a strange pinecone, and a bunch of other interesting little things) But the photos will tell you more about that.

The irony of fate

So much has happened to me today that I don't even know where to start. Cape Town! An amazing city. With right-hand traffic and funny traffic lights that locals for some reason call robots. The first thing that struck me was the politeness. Everyone around says hello, smiles, and tries to help. After our gloomy Russia, this seems somewhat unnatural. When I was looking for the office of my sponsoring company (SATS), strangers approached me several times to offer help just like that. And they helped as much as they could! One kind young man even called the SATS office to find out the way! Yeah, take note, people. The second thing is, of course, the view of Table Mountain. Its peak was covered in clouds, but even in that state, it seemed surprisingly beautiful to me. I lived in Zlatoust for most of my life, it is surrounded by mountains. And it seems I should have gotten used to them, but... Table Mountain is a miracle. Throughout the day, I dreamed of seeing the ocean. And for some reason, I just couldn't get to it. And then, almost at six in the evening local time, fate led me to the embankment. It was fate, because I couldn't have timed it for the sunset, but I arrived exactly for it. Here I run out of words... because I don't know how to describe this beauty. The bright, vibrant sun slowly sinks into the blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The moment I saw this, I suddenly realized clearly: this is the reason why Ksyusha Doroeeva came to the other end of the world. To see THIS. The sky on the other side turned gently purple. And the mountains around darkened and stood out even more. It is incredibly beautiful. It's worth living for this. So what is the irony of fate, you ask? It lies in the fact that I met some Russian guys today. And they turned out to be not just Russians, they are my fellow countrymen! The Chelyabinsk region is conquering South Africa. Why are we drawn there?) Guys from Chelyabinsk, Magnitogorsk, Ust-Katav, and me, a girl from Zlatoust) It's quite funny. Cape Town attracts the Urals) And now some background information about my stay in Africa. I live in the safest area of South Africa, it's touristy, located on the coast. The ocean is a 20-minute walk from my hostel. The Atlantic, naturally. The hostel is a small hotel, the name translates to Russian as "Big Blue Backpack". There are no Russians here, except for me. It seems! I know there are Africans, French, English, Chinese, and Poles. Surely there are representatives of other countries too, but I don't know for sure yet. The atmosphere is quite cheerful and friendly. Everyone helps me all the time) And again - everyone always says hello! And asks how I'm doing) Half an hour's walk away live the Russian guys. From the Chelyabinsk region) In the other direction is the center. It's better not to walk there in the evening, but during the day... mmm! Interesting) Small streets, people everywhere, life is boiling) Today in the center, we accidentally heard Russian speech behind us. I was very happy) Our tourists! I will look for work in hostels and hotels. Our guys have already explained to me how everything works and why. I got fired up with the idea of buying a bicycle and riding it to work and around the city! I think it's very convenient. The streets here are suitable. Besides, a used one doesn't cost that much. I'll come back from South Africa with a bicycle) In the store today, I didn't find curd snacks! I'll check for dumplings tomorrow)) Oh yes, they also have three-hole sockets here. This is important information, I know)

D-Day

The day of departure has finally arrived. It's going to be a long journey. Starting my trip from my hometown of Chelyabinsk, my mom, my brother, and I headed to Yekaterinburg to fly to Moscow. Arriving just in time, I headed to check-in, while my beloved family headed back 200 km. Flying to Moscow, I lived through the same hour all over again. Now I'm at Sheremetyevo, waiting 12 hours for my flight to London, and then to New York. I found a girl through the wonderful website iec.ru who I'll be spending the night with at the airport. So, I don't think it will be boring!
