Let's get acquainted? My name is Alua, I am only 19 years old, for such a short but fascinating life, for the first time I am taking such an unexplored step into a country unknown to me. I am the eldest child in the family, maybe with this sentence I will be able to describe my decision that has been considered for months. To be more precise, I was such a responsible, restrained and calm child, and I have remained so. I think this influenced this outcome of events. I caught fire with the goal instantly, but I made a firm and steady step towards the dream relatively recently, which I am very grateful to myself and my parents. Summer in Kazakhstan goes according to one scenario — fun, but unproductive no matter how hard you try. It seems to me that Work and travel is a mandatory part of student life and a huge opportunity that should not be missed. This is an invaluable experience that you can't get anywhere else. Probably every young person wants to work abroad, because it gives so many opportunities. Firstly, you can learn a foreign language, and up to a very good level. Secondly, there is an opportunity to learn the customs and traditions of the country, just to see how the local people live. Thirdly, during work, new great friends from all over the world are usually made, you can have fun in pleasant company. And finally, this is a great opportunity to earn decent money that will allow you to fully or partially solve your teenage financial problems. So, as you can see, there are a lot of advantages of working abroad. And most importantly, this time, in the future, according to the stories of those who have worked abroad, is remembered as one of the best in life. I learned about this student exchange program from my cousin, who a few years ago, in her student years, just like I am now, dreamed of such an opportunity, which, despite all the difficulties encountered, was able to snatch her jackpot and was able to visit the country of fulfillment of her desires. The advantages of this program are that the student is given several months to work, and then he will be able to travel around the country for up to a month. It's also the feeling you get when you explore new ideas, stories, beliefs, and scenarios. This not only expands your knowledge, but also helps you overcome the challenges you face. I experience life's challenges and pleasures, and I get out of my personal bubble to become a better person by exploring new cultures. Traveling is my passion because it's something I won't be afraid to pursue. A person learns more and more about himself, and every time he travels, he expands his horizons. Travelling helps us to know more about different lifestyles, cultures, cuisines and festivals. Visiting new sights and exploring new places increases our knowledge and widens our global perspective. We get to learn so many things about different cultures and customs. It makes us open minded and gives us a new viewpoint about life and it also changes some of our bad habits. It gave us not only tips but also free meals for one. While our diet consisted of healthy food before, in August we lived entirely on fast food. So, our food expenses were: $140 per person. Housing remained at the same price: $200. But our salary and tips saw an increase: Tips: $503 Salary: $2330 So, did you expect such an increase, or was it obvious?

Surely you have all heard that there are many overweight people in America. This is indeed true. The reason for this is the lack of healthy food at affordable prices, as well as a lack of awareness about the harm fast food does to the body. For Americans, high-calorie processed foods, hamburgers, french fries, and nuggets are staple foods. In Russia, boiled chicken is considered healthy food, but for them, nuggets replace it. I remember once working in a park in the children's area next to a cafe, and a father and son were sitting there. The man was forcing the boy to eat french fries and nuggets, when suddenly he turned to me and said: "Young lady, please explain to my child that chicken with vegetables is incredibly healthy!" That is, he implied that french fries are a healthy vegetable that is necessary for a child's body. As soon as you arrive in the States, try the local fast food. It is definitely different from ours. Even if you take a portion of Subway, which is in a flatbread, there is a significant difference. But my advice to you is not to get carried away. As we know, there are practically no vitamins in it. Immunity drops instantly, and that's where all sorts of illnesses begin. And getting treatment here is oh so expensive. Do not skimp on food. It is better to spend a little extra and buy fruits and organic dairy products. I also highly recommend the Tasty Buffet cafe, which is located at 228 MA-28, West Yarmouth. It is a Chinese buffet that includes various types of meat, potatoes, vegetables, salads, fruits, seafood, and, of course, very delicious scoop ice cream. Admission is $13 plus $2 for a drink that you can refill as many times as you want. It is really worth it. We were really saved by the supplies of porridge, pasta, and soups we brought from home. Since there was a stove and a microwave in the place where we lived, we could easily cook something from them. You can buy a pot in local stores for about six dollars. So keep that in mind.

I arrived in Myrtle Beach, a city where it is almost always summer. Palm trees, the ocean, and endless happiness. A taxi took me to the motel where I was going to live. I settled into my room, unpacked my big bags, stepped out onto the balcony, and sighed with relief: "I'm here." Everything I expected from this place was the ocean and the hot sun. My expectations in this regard were met. Myrtle Beach was especially beautiful in the evening. The city's main attractions are the amusement parks. I didn't think about the stereotypes that exist among most people regarding life in America. I wanted to form my own opinion on the matter. Day after day, I observed different sides of this other life. Of course, it's worth starting with the most striking thing. That is the eternally cheerful and smiling people. There is an opinion among us that "Americans' smiles are fake." I cannot agree with that. Every day on my way to work or just leaving the house, I met at least 10 people who just smiled at me and wished me a good day. And I replied in kind. This is exactly what helped me in all my affairs. After all, from the very beginning of the day, I knew for sure that the day was bound to be good. Americans, for the most part, are friendly, open, and very calm people. Their smile is their attitude toward life. That is, not everything can always be perfect, but the main thing is how you relate to it and perceive it. Despite the fact that I am from Russia, throughout the summer I was treated with respect and helped with everything. You can often hear compliments addressed to you. And these are not just polite phrases, but a sincere attitude. It is necessary to mention food in America. We are used to thinking that all American food is just fast food, and the products are synthetic and tasteless. It is true that restaurant chains like McDonald's are everywhere. But that does not mean that you cannot find normal food. In fact, American cuisine itself is diverse and very tasty. America can offer a wide variety of dishes from different nationalities. Once I was even treated to borscht, which I was extremely surprised by. At the same time, there is also traditional "American" cuisine, which has its own characteristics from state to state. Specifically in Myrtle Beach, there was a restaurant chain called Calabash Seafood. And there were not only fresh seafood, but also a variety of tasty food we are used to. You can also go to the supermarket and cook perfectly normal food at home. So American cuisine is more than just fast food. How do Americans get around? They say they don't walk at all. Of course, knowing how to drive and having your own car is a necessity in America. People are not ready to walk further than a block. But this is not because all Americans are lazy. Especially when public transport is very problematic in cities. People cannot imagine how one can walk long distances at all. At first, I walked to work - there and back. In total, it took an hour. When my bosses found out about this, they were shocked and were surprised for a long time at my endurance. And then, they told me that absolutely every one of them was ready to give me a ride and that it was no trouble for them at all. Attitude towards people with disabilities. Before, I didn't think about people with disabilities and the attitude towards them. For Americans, this is especially important. When I got on the bus more than once, one could observe how they help a person in a wheelchair take a seat among the passengers. Everyone waits patiently and is in no hurry until such a person is inside the bus. As for transport, each one has a special ramp for people with disabilities. I have never encountered this in my city.

The next stop was Philadelphia. It was an amazing trip full of impressions and emotions. Museums, fountains, architecture, a huge number of universities, cute designer spots, cafes, diners, street art, surreal monuments that were hard to fully grasp, skyscrapers, and amazingly dressed passersby – all of this was absolutely thrilling! People seemed so free and open! Some were doing yoga in the park on their mats, some were just sunbathing, some were reading books, and some were feeding squirrels that, surprisingly, acted like they were tame – in that moment, I felt like a part of real American life. In the USA, I managed to celebrate my American coming-of-age – turning 21. It was incredibly fun, surrounded by all my new friends from different countries, including Americans. I can confidently say that it was my most unforgettable and unusual birthday! On days off from work, we would gather in the backyard, have a barbecue, roast American marshmallows over the fire, and share stories from our lives. The variety of goods in American supermarkets never ceased to amaze: the shelves were simply bursting with 'products for the lazy.' You could find everything and even a little bit more. Although I wasn't impressed by American food at all—in fact, I was a bit disappointed because it's very unhealthy and packed with chemicals—it was still easy to find some tasty treats in the stores. It was very surprising that fast food in America isn't actually that tasty, despite the fact that America is the birthplace of fast food worldwide. I remember Wildwood with special warmth and tenderness, as I spent most of my American trip there and got very used to Wawa – a chain of convenience stores where we would run for delicious self-made coffee, sandwiches, and chats with friendly American staff, to those cute streets and houses, to such a calm and measured life in a small town, to Dunkin’ Donuts with their tempting donuts. Oh, how I miss it! On the boardwalk, there was always something incredible happening. A huge number of locals, J-1 students, and just Americans who came to relax. You could play various games, feel like a gangster by dressing up in a costume, or test your luck with slot machines, ride roller coasters, spend a whole day at a water park, eat freshly made chocolate prepared right in front of you, impressive caramel apples, get a piercing or a tattoo, buy a T-shirt or a phone case with your photo in a couple of minutes, try the best pizza in town, or just take a walk, breathing in the ocean air.

Ever since I was a child, I dreamed of going to America, walking on the waterfront by the ocean, having fun with different people, learning more about their culture and mentality. The thought that I could visit America really fascinated me and the desire grew more and more. Getting acquainted with the art of cinema in the original recording, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the exciting atmosphere of America, feel incredible emotions and imagine an unforgettable time spent there, which I can really translate into reality. Listening to their music encouraged me to study the language better and better in order to understand the meaning that the author put into his song. So, having learned about this program, which provides an opportunity to visit America, and also with benefit, I happily decided to use it. It is this program that provides an opportunity to meet people from your country with common goals and interests and to make friends. These people give each other support and advice, which is really important when taking such an important step in your life. In addition, the employees of the center of the international center provide quality advice and become assistants throughout the process of this program, therefore, thanks to this, you can feel much more relaxed and confident in your actions. Preparing for a trip is also a special process that contains excitement, anticipation, and experiences, but in the course of solving various issues it becomes easier and more interesting, you immerse yourself in the process and start to enjoy it. The emotions that I will get from the trip of this program prompted me to choose it and make an important decision for myself. During this trip, you can get new vivid sensations that add color to life. Such a trip provides many opportunities, one of which is meeting new and interesting people. Since America is considered a country of immigrants, here you will be able to get to know representatives of different nationalities, their culture and mentality. Dating data involves the exchange of life experiences, stories, advice and much more. Having talked with quite different people, you can learn a lot of new things, consider new views on the lives of other people of various cultures. By communicating with a large number of people, you will be able to learn a lot of new and interesting information that may be of some benefit in the future. Sharing life experiences helps people discover new aspects of life. Communicating with different personalities that you will meet, you will hear a large number of thoughts and views, so your horizons will expand significantly and your thinking will reach a new level. An important element of this program is also that you can improve your spoken English and its understanding. No matter how much we are taught English in educational institutions, it is much better to learn the language in practice. Usually in life the language can be a little different from what we were taught, as we are taught more formally. Kubissenova Saltanat IEC Kazakhstan 8th group International exchange program: now and in the future There are many programs available today, in the twenty-first century, that offer the chance to travel, study and work abroad. We witness people successfully returning home after having participated in an international program, providing positive feedback, and recommending others to participate. The key to a future that is sustainable, one where the generation is educated and has a wider worldview, is giving students these possibilities. My university provided me with the opportunity to study abroad as an exchange student in Lithuania last semester. At the age of 18 years old, I was a young girl who had never left her home country. Sincerely, it was quite challenging to be alone with strangers and away from home. However, over time, these random strangers turned into my closest friends. During my six-month study abroad, in Lithuania, Samantha and I lived in the same room. In a way, Samantha was my sister, or "sorella" in Italian.This second-year Italian master's student helped me adapt to the community at a foreign university and introduced me to other Erasmus students. It was wonderful for me to be acquainted with individuals from Turkey, Korea, Italy, Spain, Ukraine, Indonesia, Morocco and India since they all had unique personalities and were a part of their different cultures. I made an attempt to manage my courses so that I could return to my former university with a satisfactory grade. At Kaunas University of Technology, where I spent the whole semester studying, we were taught how to learn more effectively. I found that studying in Europe is relatively simpler than in Kazakhstan, considering the practically identical educational system. For instance, we just took the midterm and final examinations at KTU, which felt more comfortable to me than the midterm, endterm, and final exams we take at my own university. Actually, I had four school courses in total, and they were all very different from one another. As a student of mathematical science speciality, I found learning about physics to be somewhat difficult. Despite this, I was able to pass each subject with honors, and I returned to my Suleyman Demirel university with pleasure. A trip to Copenhagen with my friend Elmira from Kazakhstan and two korean girls is among the memories I will not soon forget. We arrived at 7 a.m. without carefully checking our flight while the flight was scheduled to leave at 10 a.m. When we could not find our flight in the list of flights for the following two hours, we became really anxious. We asked the airport employees, after that we recognized our faults, and made the choice to wait for our flight. In the airport, we fell asleep while hugging our luggage. Nevertheless, we traveled about Copenhagen for two days, enjoying traditional delicacies and seeing the origin of the well-known Copenhagen Tigers store. I am delighted to get the opportunity and fulfill a childhood dream of mine by traveling to the city of love, Paris. Even at first glance, it is obvious that this country is a megalopolis with magnificent historical buildings that gives a completely European atmosphere, which I want to return to. Work and travel is one of the well-known programs that helps students find employment abroad and travel throughout the USA. Every year, this program sends a large number of students to America to pursue their dreams.
