Konum hakkında

Frankfurt operates as a dense continental finance engine wrapped in quiet, self-contained residential quarters.

Frankfurt anchors European monetary policy through the European Central Bank and the German Bundesbank. Corporate headquarters and trading institutions concentrate immense capital in the central core, drawing vast commuter flows from across the Rhine-Main region. For long-term residents, this corporate density inflates residential rents and empties commercial streets promptly once business hours conclude.

Cultural institutions cluster densely along the riverfront Museumsufer, where major collections like the Städel Museum and the German Architecture Museum sit side by side. Daily life shifts south into Alt-Sachsenhausen and north into Bornheim, where neighbourhood taverns pour sour apple cider from stoneware jugs alongside cold herbal sauces. Corner kiosks known as Trinkhallen anchor evening street socialising across residential districts.

Frankfurt Central Station connects heavy regional rail to suburban rapid transit, making daily commuting straightforward while creating sharp urban contrasts right outside its doors. The adjacent Bahnhofsviertel combines open drug scenes and brothels with crowded eateries and bars under active police patrols. New arrivals must navigate steep rental deposits and compulsory municipal registration before settling into routine neighbourhood life.

Is Frankfurt Hahn Airport close to Frankfurt am Main?

Passengers traveling between this airport and central Frankfurt must rely on regional long-distance buses or private highway vehicles. Urban rapid transit and suburban rail services do not extend to that location.

How it all started...

July 16, 11:30 PM. The 86th floor of one of the tallest skyscrapers in New York. The lights of the night megalopolis seem to merge into one. Warm but strong gusts of wind blow in my face. Seeing New York from a bird's-eye view evokes a whirlwind of emotions. Only 30 minutes left until my birthday. I can't even believe this is all happening to me right now... FLIGHT TICKETS Three months earlier. April 12, 2019 — the very day I heard the cherished words: “Your visa is approved”. Back then it seemed: “Well, that's it, everything is behind me”. How wrong I was, because it was only the beginning. The beginning of the most unforgettable, educational, interesting, most fateful and adventurous summer of my 20 years. After our passports were stamped with American visas, we started looking for the most advantageous flight tickets according to all parameters and criteria (since we chose the Self-arranged program without the agency purchasing the tickets). Our choice fell on the German airline Lufthansa (round-trip tickets for one person for the dates May 13-September 25 cost 37,000 rubles). The flight was from Moscow to Boston with a two-hour layover in Frankfurt am Main. It was no coincidence that we chose Boston as our destination. Since my friend's sister was supposed to pick us up from the airport, it was decided to fly specifically to Boston. But otherwise, we could have flown to New York, for example, with Aeroflot for about 34,000 rubles, while spending an additional $100 to get from New York to our destination.

I discovered America for myself

Why don't you give it a try? That's how my big journey began... As an honors student and someone afraid of change, I decided to do it, no matter what. Gathering all my documents and courage, I went to the office and registered for Work and Travel. Without knowing it, I changed my life. So what's the catch? Here it is... my story. Realizing that the visa was already in my passport and the ticket in my hand, there was no turning back. Everything will be fine; everyone who has tried it is alive and well. That's what I told myself before boarding the plane (Oh, how silly). Takeoff, noise, pressure in my ears... everything is new, and I already like it. A layover in Frankfurt and chatting with tourists made me realize my English wasn't as bad as I imagined. Now I'll really start speaking, I thought, and took my seat on the Boeing that was my companion to a new continent. A long flight, and my blood was boiling with curiosity—what's it like there, what's the air like, the landscapes? Stepping off the plane, I already felt it was worth it, no matter what happened next. I was met, along with a few other guys, and we drove from the airport in Washington through rain that seemed like a "ninth wave" to me. Arriving at the training base, we were dropped off and told to go to the hall. A bit of silence, and then burgers—we were starving after the flight. After putting our things in a shipping container, the instructor took me and my future friend from Turkey to our temporary home. I fell asleep like a baby, and in the morning, I went outside and was just in shock... Greenery, birds, morning—it all seemed like a fairy tale, and I went back inside. I washed up, went out again, and realized: this is cool. We were trained to swim and perform rescues (I was a lifeguard). Our skills grew in the instructor's eyes under the sun; every day a few new people arrived, and finally, on the 3rd day, I saw something I fell in love with. A girl from Turkey stole my heart, and I started volunteering to be the "victim" during pool rescues because I wanted her to be with me. But the story isn't about love, because in the evening, guys from Jamaica and a new coach arrived. We grilled barbecue with beans and listened to country music—what could be better? Well, it got better: the guys from Jamaica singing Bob Marley while drumming on the table—it's like a tradition for them. After gaining the necessary experience and passing the exam, I was taken to my new home and shown my job. Every day I rejoiced in new meetings and bike rides across the USA. My summer was spent in an insanely cool atmosphere with Bulgarian and American friends. I managed to visit Washington with my best friend, and later saw the White House and the Capitol with my beloved (yes, that same one). My sister, who works as cabin crew, flew to the American capital and then to New York to give me confidence and make me realize I am important. Upon arriving in Ukraine, I couldn't stop looking through photos and talking to friends—my English was already top-notch, and I'd even picked up some Spanish and Bulgarian. My life changed, and I changed. Work and Travel opened my eyes. #WorkAndTravel #USA #Adventure

Introduction and "airplane" feelings

Introduction When you are in a big, cold city, you hardly imagine another life. You don't think that somewhere, 8,000 km away across the ocean, in the south of the North American continent, in the state of South Carolina, in the city of Myrtle Beach, there is Broadway at the beach, and there, in the back room of the Coastal Outfitters store, David is checking long-sleeved shirts, and Sam is explaining to J-1 students how hangers differ. A place where a pedestrian is a curiosity, and if you are also white, and if you are also a girl, then expect to be startled by car horns and shouts. A place where your African-American neighbors watch you come and go from work every day. A place where it is warm not only from the sun, where everything seems the same, but is completely different. Part 1 The Road to City M Getting to New York, the city of dreams for many dancers, programmers, musicians, businessmen, tourists, travelers, and other inhabitants of our planet, was easier than expected. Strangely, it is not the city of my dreams. I never dreamed of NYC or the USA in general. I applied for the program quite spontaneously and on the very last day. To get to NY, I just had to leave everything behind, enter the airport, get my boarding passes, go through security, meet my travel companions for the first time in my life—at least for the next 24 hours—and board the Minsk-Frankfurt flight. There, I exhaled a little and called my mom, heard crying on the other end, and got a little nervous again. But then, I met my neighbor on the plane and spent 2 hours of the flight listening to stories about doctors. His questions about my trip didn't calm me down at all; rather, they made me realize that I was doing something crazy, at least for myself. – “Wow, you are flying to New York, so far away. Are you staying there? Will you be met? How are you going on your own? Wow, and then to Myrtle Beach, by bus! There are a lot of Mexicans there and it's dangerous. For 2.5 months? Do you even know the girls you are flying with well? You met an hour ago? Oh, you are a brave girl, Lyuba.” In my head, I thought: “What am I doing? Where am I going at all? Why do I need all this?” Having safely reached Frankfurt, I just had to transfer to another flight, and task No. 1 was almost done. True, I had to go through a million security checks, especially me. They decided to send me for an extra screening, where, for complete happiness, they had to shine a flashlight into my mouth. Boarding the huge Boeing to NY was already a relief, knowing that for the next 8 hours, I could forget about panic, not rush anywhere, and not get lost. But in reality, there were so many thoughts in my calmly sitting body; they were running, jumping, and it felt like they were competing for the title of the most panicked thought. We arrived on Tuesday, and we ended up having two of them. We passed all the checks and immediately encountered American optimism. “Why so sad? You are flying to Myrtle Beach; I would go there myself right now. Smile, let's take your photo.” Then there were 30 minutes of dizzying waiting for the suitcase on the carousel. And hallelujah, we and our luggage were on US territory, at the famous JFK airport. There was a black hole in our heads, and ahead was a long road, a big story, a whole life in a country across the ocean. A couple of hours on the AirTrain at different terminals and the subway, and we were somewhere inside the city called New York. Using a map, we found our bus stop and headed there with our suitcases. On the way, we found ourselves in Chinatown, where it smelled of fish, everyone we met was Chinese, and there wasn't a single sign in English. For a second, it seemed like we had boarded the wrong plane and arrived in Beijing. We still made it to the so-called bus stop, filled with African-Americans. I pushed my phone with electronic tickets into the window to the Chinese man; he answered something in English-Chinese, and of course, we didn't see any

Story one (How to meet people? Answer: you don't, people will meet you themselves)

Am I... becoming happier? Oh my god. (c) A tweet after America. I always knew I was destined for something, and, drifting aimlessly with the current, I believed: I am on my path. But the moment came when I grew tired of waiting for the continuation of my story – it was so boring that I successfully forgot some of the events and characters. Getting ready for America, I thought: this will be a great test of stability, maybe overseas civilization will turn me into a brave adventurer, expand my narrow conceptual boundaries. I want to tell you my stories and submit the level of my madness to your judgment. Story one (How to meet people? Answer: you don't, people will meet you themselves) I flew without friends or companions, so during the layover in Frankfurt, which lasted – stay calm, I survived it easier than I planned! – eighteen hours, I was left alone. I drank hot tea, which seemed much more soulless than the one my Belarusian roommate makes, while simultaneously browning white bread in a hot skillet. Feeling lonely at the airport is normal. Missing home is normal. By the way, it might sound rude, but that was the last time I missed home on such a scale. I tried to settle into an airport chair to fall asleep, but it didn't go very well – I lay with my eyes closed, aimlessly drifting in my thoughts, until I felt someone cover me with a blanket. I shake off the drowsiness and open my eyes. In front of me is an African American man, glowing with joy and apologies, not at all embarrassed, muttering that, miss, your feet must be cold, how can one not help a girl whose feet are cold, I would give you warm socks, but I don't have any, take the blanket for now, since your feet are cold. Now I know that this was Hector. He is from New Orleans, Louisiana, he loves his elderly parents (later I will see these people with kind faces, marred by dozens of curved lines radiating from their eyes), he idolizes honey and would like to become a lawyer. That is how I met my first American friend in Frankfurt. From here, my tips flow smoothly: 1. Buddy, don't be afraid to accept help, even if it seems unnatural to do so. Just admit that you need help. I understand: I used to be shy even to ask where the post office was. 2. Feeling lonely at the airport is normal. 3. Try not to lose touch with everyone you meet on your way. Upon returning home, messages like “what’s up” or “i miss you” will seem like a lifeline to you. By the way, there was another Hector in my American life. He walked up to me on a busy Chicago street and said: “Hey, amazing boots!” Half an hour later, Hector was showing me Chicago skyscrapers and treating me to a sweet apple, while I learned that he loves dusty bars, hates his profession as a lawyer (oh!), and believes there are people who undeservedly take everything. These memories are so warm that the love for them sometimes makes it hard for me to breathe.

A 43-hour journey

Before New York, I had two flights: Moscow—Frankfurt, Frankfurt—New York. I landed in Germany, waiting for the second flight. And then, an announcement at the airport: "Flight cancelled, get in line and rebook your tickets." What? WHAT? I thought all the bad luck was over. Okay, I realized that the bus tickets I bought in advance were going to waste. Tip! Don't buy bus tickets in advance. So, I got on a plane to Washington, and then to New York. So, it's midnight, and I'm at the New York airport. My bus isn't for almost a day, but I'm so exhausted that I don't want to go anywhere, I just wander around the airport, talk to Americans, and read a book. At 7 a.m., I head to Port Authority to buy tickets to my city, drop my luggage off at the storage locker, and go wander around the city. I've always had a good sense of direction, so I looked at the map once, understood which way to go, and didn't open it again after that. During my walk, I completely immersed myself in the atmosphere of New York. In the bus line, I met Ulya. Ulyana is from Barnaul, she's going to work in Sandusky, the first and last person from the linguistics department I met. We chatted the whole way, sometimes fell asleep, chatted again, ate buckwheat and bananas. Ulyana got off in Sandusky, and I went on. On the next bus, another acquaintance with a person from Russia awaited me. We chatted again, and thanks to the conversation, I didn't even notice how we reached Minneapolis. Tip! Use Greyhound buses. When I was buying tickets for them, it was scary, as there are many negative reviews on the internet, but it is a wonderful and comfortable (incredibly cheap) means of transportation. But definitely take a blanket on the bus, Americans love the cold. I fell in love with Minneapolis. Its architecture captured my heart. In Walker, I was met by Josh, the manager of the resort where I was supposed to work. We stocked up on food for the week ahead. He showed me Leech Lake, which everyone in this small town was proud of, as it is the 3rd largest lake in Minnesota. Also, in conversation with Josh, I learned that they already have 2 Russian girls working there. He brought me to the resort, introduced me to the owner and a girl, Ksyusha. Ksenia, out of habit, said 'Hi' to me because she didn't know that I was also from Russia. Joshua took me to the house where I was to spend the summer. We had two houses for the three of us, you could go from one to the other, each house was equipped with a kitchen, bathroom, living room, and 2 bedrooms. I was given two days to rest, I rode a bike, went to the lake, lay at home, and watched movies in English. Riding around the resort area for the hundredth time, I realized that there wasn't much entertainment here, because the nearest town was 30 miles away.

Travel brings knowledge.

It was a period when a huge number of students were flying out. We were among them; on June 2nd, nearly 70 of us were departing. Everyone was very excited and tried to get to know each other quickly, realizing we would only spend two days in New York, yet everyone stuck together despite barely knowing one another. The mood was very positive, as some of us were flying for the first time toward independent life—even if just for a short while, it was a huge experience for them. Some were saying goodbye to family, there were many friends seeing us off, shouting well wishes for a great summer, and others were saying goodbye to their significant others. But after passing through customs, everyone felt a bit lonely for a moment, lost in thought, maybe even a little sad—perhaps starting to wonder what awaited them this summer?! But that passed quickly... Then the "selfie" phase began, photographing boarding passes, passports, and finally Instagram; that’s how our 40 minutes until boarding passed... We flew with Lufthansa, and what can I say, we liked it))) We didn't have time to get bored; there were movies, music, and a library the whole way. Students don't sleep on the plane, especially when flying to the USA. Everyone is discussing something; it's interesting to meet groupmates who didn't know all year that they were also program participants. It's good they met at the airport on the way to the USA; there were even cases where people met for the first time only on the return flight. And they were so surprised! Transfer in Frankfurt. The transfer was very convenient; we waited for only about 2 hours, quickly went through registration, spent half an hour in the waiting area, and then we were back on the plane, though not as active anymore—everyone wanted to sleep... When they announced we were approaching New York, we were fed one last time and asked to raise our seats and fasten our seatbelts. You could see the feeling of anticipation for something incredible on everyone's faces; everyone was so alert, so excited! The plane made a very soft landing, we taxied to the terminal for a long time, and slowly everyone started grabbing their carry-on luggage and moving toward the exit. John F. Kennedy International Airport is the largest international airport in the USA, located in the Queens borough in the southeastern part of New York City, 20 km southeast of Lower Manhattan. Can you imagine the traffic at the airport when everyone is waiting for permission to land or take off because there is simply no space, and an "airplane traffic jam" has formed? There were so many people at the airport, so many that it took us almost 3 hours to get through customs. Tip: If you brought fruit with you, please make sure to declare it on your customs declaration. Otherwise, you may be fined or detained until circumstances are clarified. This also applies to other products. After passing the check and collecting our luggage, we all gathered at the exit. A cool bus with a guide arrived and took us to the Hotel Pennsylvania. On the way, the guide told us about everything we saw on the road, about shops, groceries, car rentals, and even inexpensive restaurants and shopping. Hotel Pennsylvania, the location of this hotel is simply fantastic. Pennsylvania is in Manhattan, across the street from the Madison Square Garden sports complex, and was one of the most frequently booked in New York City! Times Square and the Museum of Modern Art are less than a 15-minute subway ride from the Penn Hotel. The hotel is also one block from the Macy's department store and 2 blocks from the Empire State Building. Midtown is a great choice if you are interested in landmarks, shopping, and museums. At the hotel, a girl was waiting for us at a separate reception desk with an "INTEREXCHANGE" sign. She quickly collected our passports and, calling everyone one by one, handed out room keys. She reacted very quickly to requests to change rooms and helped in every way she could. Even

Water is wet. And yes: there is very little time left. While I am still able to think confidently about things that are yet to happen, very soon I won't be able to speak so confidently about what will happen tomorrow, let alone the day after. But this time, my mind woke up long before, so the virtual route is roughly laid out, and I have the means (camera) and the destination (here) in advance. The places are quite remote, and the realities are too, so I will try to avoid photos like "me with someone else's car" or "a tree like a tree, but American." Perm - Nizhny Novgorod - Frankfurt - Chicago. Rubles-euros-dollars. Next - what you need for survival if you are going to dash off to the land of the stars and stripes, besides Valentin Strykalo recordings on magnetic tape (in descending order of importance): = You need to punch yourself in the face or otherwise convince yourself to sit down at the computer and, instead of the usual youporn.com, open something like google.maps and look at the places where you will soon be thrown. It is useful to get a card like a Visa Classic with a dollar account in advance to buy tickets for a bus/train/plane from city A to city B. It is no less useful to know in advance where to run and what to see. The internet will help. = Take your documents and make copies and copies of copies, which should be placed in your bag, laptop, Google Docs, Dropbox, or wherever else you keep your internet backups. = A laptop, for orientation, Skype, online shopping, listening/watching and recording/filming, and even, oh my god, playing @ killing time. = Medicines: anything more complex than activated charcoal - take it with you. All sorts of band-aids/bandages/cough syrups are available everywhere. Everyone worries about contact lenses, but in vain. Solutions are sold freely, the lenses themselves - not so freely. There are sites for ordering, but they ask you to attach a prescription, apparently in digital form. Although, people say that everything is fine, you just skip this step and receive the package. = Clothes: besides the junk you'll wear on the plane, you need spare replacements for underwear, socks, and a sweaty t-shirt. Everything is sold in any size, very cheaply. = A camera, any kind. It will remember everything for you. In general, I will try to write something obvious here from time to time, but from the other side, and not forget about rpod.
