Konum hakkında

Bordeaux Cathedral marks the religious and civic center of the city.

Primatial Cathedral of Saint Andrew anchors the urban core as the formal seat of the local archbishop. Royal ceremonies defined its prominence across centuries, including the wedding of Eleanor of Aquitaine before her ascent as queen. The site transformed from an early fortified settlement into the administrative head of Aquitaine.

Centuries of military conflict and geological hazards shaped the physical layout of the building. The outbreak of hostilities during English rule forced builders to reduce the nave from multiple aisles to a single passage. External masonry was reinforced with flying buttresses after an earthquake damaged the adjacent municipal ramparts.
