Base yourself near deep desert oases to manage water supplies, extreme heat, and severe isolation across long stays.

Konum hakkında

Extreme aridity defines daily life across vast desert expanses.

Permanent high atmospheric pressure drives warm air downward, keeping skies cloudless across North Africa. Mountain ridges block maritime clouds, creating profound aridity and intense solar radiation. Residents and research staff schedule heavy physical transit around intense daytime heating and harsh temperature swings.

Canyon plateaus such as Tassili n'Ajjer preserve extensive rock art depicting ancient river wildlife, showing periods of green savanna before rapid desertification occurred. Long-term field projects demand rigorous logistics, as water sources stay confined to oases and remote northern highlands with Mediterranean flora.

31) RANK 13. Las Vegas

Las Vegas is a city of dazzling lights and faded shadows. And it's like that with everything. Sparkling lights sit side-by-side with unsightly buildings, strip club signs next to children's clothing stores, and a bustling nightlife with exhausted midday desolation. Getting to know it started with a view of the night city from the mountain at the entrance. The huge plain pulses with the straight lines of avenues, hotel lights, giant signs, and space-age towers, merging in the distance into a blinding horizontal line. Las Vegas trembles with the electric tension of the thoughts and desires of hundreds of thousands of people. And you involuntarily begin to feel this wild, inevitable rhythm, realizing that before you is a legendary city... It was about 4 a.m., so the rest was just checking into the hotel in a half-daze and sleeping.) In the morning, it turned out the car had broken down; repairs took about 4 hours, and after that, we set off to explore the city. Our girls had spent a couple of days there before the Grand Canyon, so they knew exactly where to go. And so we went) To my deep disappointment (and perhaps not just mine), Vegas turned out not to be what you imagine. From the inside, it's not full of lights and luxury, but a rather deserted city with only one main street where everything is located. And it's not laid out in a way that makes you gasp at what catches your eye, but rather at a decent distance from each other. Expecting to drown in the light of lamps and neon signs at night, I found the night lighting frankly lacking. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. In the morning (meaning during the day), we went to look at the hotels, which are also casinos and shopping centers. To gamble, they asked for our passports, so fake IDs apparently don't work here. I wasn't 21, so I sat by the broken-down wreck (the car=)) and flipped through flyers for prostitutes, which the Mexicans hand out here because prostitution is legal)) Moreover, when handing them out, they slap the flyer against their hand to attract attention, and that's why in some places the city center turns into a continuous competition of performers on plucked instruments))) In general, the whole point of Vegas is the hotels, specifically that they all have different themes and each has its own casinos and shows; you just walk around, look at the interiors, and pick any one. There's a pirate hotel, a Venice one, a Disney one, an Arabian East one, and so on. Roughly speaking, there are about 15-20 decent ones. First, we go to the Treasure Island hotel - tropical theme, vegetation everywhere, a pool, and a nude bath. If you're lucky, you can get into the VIP pool by pretending you live there. The girls managed it the day before, in several hotels at once; they say the one at Treasure is the coolest. But it didn't work for us - six Russians were asked for their room keys))) Also, every hour from 6 o'clock, they put on a water show about pirates. The show is so-so; you can see that the people are clearly slacking off, so the crowd disperses in some bewilderment, but that's understandable - it's free, after all)) The next hotel is Caesar's, with Roman mosaics, vases, a bunch of shops, etc. Then Sahara - Arabian style and an excellent buffet for $12.) After lunch, Venice. It's cool because of its appearance (an almost exact copy of the Doge's Palace in Venice, you can take a photo so you can't even tell the difference=))) and the fact that you can take a gondola ride, inside and outside the palace, but it costs something like $20. The girls had ridden it the day before and said that riding inside isn't great, so if you go, try the outside. Inside, there are again shops and roulette machines. The sun began to set, and people drifted from their cool, cozy hotel rooms toward entertainment. It's the perfect time to go to the Stratosphere tower!!! The observation deck at a height of almost 300 meters and the crazy carousel there will leave impressions for a long time (

Las Vegas, Nevada

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas Vegas is one of the most popular cities, attracting adventurers and party lovers from all over the world into its web! As bright representatives of such people, we couldn't miss this place of temptation! It was very interesting to watch out the window while flying into the city! Yellow deserts were replaced by various red gorges! And then, in the middle of the sandy hills, small squares of identical houses with pools began to appear.. Then suddenly, one big strip with huge hotels of different shapes, we even spotted our booked hotel—the Stratosphere! Yay!!!! We are in Vegas!!! We arrived in the heat of the day.. Right inside the airport building, there were areas with slot machines for the most impatient and the long-awaited sign: "Welcome to Las Vegas")) Looking at the scorching sun outside the window, we decided to sleep a little at the airport to recharge (we had been lacking energy lately!) So 3 hours passed unnoticed... We left as little clothing on as possible, had a snack, and hit the road!!!)))) We took a bus to the main street, the Strip... Wow!!! The first thought—why did we only allocate 2 days for this wonderful city!!! Sprawling palm trees, luxurious hotels, each of them looking like some city or country of the world! We urgently needed to get rid of our heavy backpacks. We only booked the hotel for the second night, because it would have been illogical to sleep the first night in Las Vegas! Without thinking twice, we went into the first hotel, where a kind gentleman allowed us to leave our things in the luggage room for free! Entry to all hotels was free; you could wander there for hours, looking at the decorations and various entertainment! We visited the Egypt hotel in the shape of a pyramid with a huge statue of a pharaoh at the head, took a tram to the next hotel.. and for some reason, we really wanted to rest somewhere! Or rather, it's clear why: we hadn't slept much in the last 24 hours, the unbearable heat, and on top of all that, I got a little sick, my temperature rose.. We went into a hotel that looked like a fairy-tale castle, and there it was—our salvation, this is what we were looking for—a small outdoor pool, Yay!!! Naturally, everything was free, they even gave us a towel, and we had prudently brought our swimsuits with us) We swam and slept on the sun loungers until sunset) Later, I had to pull myself together, popping pills for all cold ailments, and go meet adventures! With the onset of evening in Vegas, millions of lights turn on, the main street fills with millions of tourists, and millions of dollars are spun in the casinos! We wanted to walk around and see everything! But by morning we had to be near our hotel, the Stratosphere, as the bus to the Grand Canyon was leaving from there at 6 o'clock! We decided to walk down the street and go everywhere, thinking we would walk through quickly and then party somewhere later) As luck would have it, in the first hotel, the sole of my flip-flop tore off, so I had to look for new ones in the shops almost barefoot) Then we finally saw all the most interesting things: New York-New York with the Statue of Liberty, Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge, the Paris Eiffel Tower, the bridges of Venice, Rome, Monte Carlo, Sahara... We enjoyed the unique singing fountains, which, catching subtle musical transitions, performed extraordinary tricks, as if they were alive) By the way, the prices for rooms in hotels are very low; our room with two large beds and necessary amenities at the Stratosphere hotel cost $30. Perhaps such cheap accommodation is so that tourists can stay in Vegas as long as possible and lose everything in the casino! And if you are vacationing with a group, you can fit four people into this room quite comfortably, then the price will seem ridiculous! In one internet cafe, we met a Russian guy who kindly gave us the internet for 5 minutes to print tickets for an excursion) -What is your name?... -Or.. (something inc
