The architect Ferenc Raichle settled locally after European studies, initially lodging in the mayor's mansion. Municipal officials rejected his initial submission for lacking adequate scale, compelling an elaborate redesign. The finished Art Nouveau residence featured a dominant clock tower and duplicated floor layouts, but bankruptcy forced the architect to surrender the property to creditors and relocate to Szeged.

Private owners occupied the palace until municipal takeovers transformed the apartments into public cultural venues. Conversion into the Municipal Museum and the Contemporary Art Gallery erased original decorative finishes. Curators coated rooms in white paint, destroying historic wallpapers, wall paintings, and leather coverings. The structure survives as a designated Cultural Monument of Great Importance.
