Sobre o local

Imperial domestic life unfolded behind these neoclassical facades before the complex transformed into a vast civic center for children.

The estate took shape along the Fontanka water frontage on land once held by Antonio de Vieira, taking its title from the adjacent bridge. Built under Empress Elizabeth as a grand Baroque residence, the halls were gifted in turn to Count Aleksey Razumovsky and Prince Potemkin. Architect Ivan Starov remodeled the complex in neoclassical tastes, while William Hould shaped the surrounding formal parkland.

Tsarist rulers chose the compound as their main domestic residence over the Winter Palace, hosting court weddings and raising royal heirs on the grounds. Following state nationalization, the estate held municipal offices before converting into a youth palace for after-school clubs. The complex operates as an educational facility rather than an open monument, keeping the interior closed to casual walk-in visitors.
