Athletic history defines the building, where Muhammad Ali won his debut professional boxing match against Tunney Hunsaker. Decades of collegiate basketball followed for the Louisville Cardinals and Bellarmine Knights, alongside professional basketball with the Kentucky Colonels before the league merged with the national association.

Severe weather left a structural mark when an intense tornado tore off part of the roof and cancelled a scheduled basketball playoff contest.
