Par vietu

Red Star Belgrade plays home fixtures at Rajko Mitić Stadium, an arena constructed deeply into the terrain of Dedinje.

The arena occupies the site of the former Avala ground, which was demolished after municipal inspectors found its timber stands rotten and structurally unsafe. Builders lowered the pitch level deep into the hillside to reduce reinforcement expenses during construction. This excavation provoked landslide risks for adjacent residential properties until geological soundings confirmed firm Sarmatian limestone bedrock underneath.

State authorities financed the construction project under the stipulation that running lanes for athletics would encircle the grass pitch. Red Star relocated temporarily to the military team ground while building work proceeded. The stadium remains deeply associated with continental football history, having hosted the closing European fixture contested by Manchester United before the Munich air disaster.
