Micronesia's oldest continuously operating museum preserves local civic heritage from its grounds inside the botanical garden.

The institution stands as the oldest continuously running museum in Micronesia, beginning under the title Palau Museu before adopting its current Palauan name. Palauan founders Indalecio Rudimch, Francisco Morei, and Alphonso Oiterong created the collection alongside anthropologist Francis M Mahoney. An appointed Museum Committee administered municipal activities and preserved public artifacts across the opening era.

Exhibits originally occupied the former Japanese Administration Weather Bureau prior to a transfer into Palau Botanical Garden. The Government of the Republic of China financed a dedicated facility on the garden grounds to house the expanding institutional holdings. A formal board of trustees assumed operational direction after the institution restructured into an independent non-profit organisation.
