North Natomas developed around an arena that defined regional sports before professional basketball relocated downtown.

The venue served as the main sports hub for Sacramento, hosting the Sacramento Kings alongside women's basketball with the Monarchs and indoor football with the Attack. Engineers built the facility on northern farmland with perpendicular ice alignments and retractable seating to accommodate hockey rinks and touring shows. The building operated with compact concourses and modest facilities compared to newer league arenas.
