Federal coin manufacturing operates at unmatched scale inside this facility, marking everyday pocket change with a distinctive stamp.

Private assayers established the original facility during the regional gold rush to convert local dust into bullion without paying eastern transit fees. The federal government acquired the private mint machinery and converted the site into an official assay office. Regional miners brought stream gold and deep vein ore to be melted, tested for purity, and cast into stamped bars rather than immediate circulation coins.
