The cathedral anchors the diocese for the Church in Wales and operates as an active parish church. Cardiff maintains this Anglican episcopal seat within Llandaff while its Roman Catholic counterpart stands in the city centre. Joint dedications honour Saint Peter and Saint Paul alongside Welsh saints Dubricius, Teilo, and Oudoceus.
