Contemporary art exhibitions anchor the academic and cultural life of the riverside campus.

Bildmuseet operates as the central contemporary art institution of Umeå University, situated directly within the Umeå Arts Campus. The institution commissions and displays Swedish and international contemporary art, visual culture, architecture, and design. Curators regularly combine ongoing contemporary projects with historical art retrospectives in a dedicated multi-level structure designed by Henning Larsen Architects.
