Dutch colonial woodwork defines the civic core around the presidential grounds.

The palace stands directly opposite Onafhankelijkheidsplein, anchoring an administrative cluster that brings the National Assembly, the Court of Justice, and the Ministry of Finance onto a single shared green. As a preserved example of Dutch colonial building traditions, the structure forms a core component of the UNESCO-inscribed inner city.
