Commercial operations remain quiet while flight schools dominate the runway.

The airfield in Hoče–Slivnica maintains both asphalt and grass landing strips alongside an instrument landing system, qualifying it for commercial passenger jets. Despite having terminal facilities built for substantial regional traffic, scheduled airline routes have repeatedly halted following carrier insolvencies. European airlines use the quiet airspace and full ground infrastructure for intense pilot training sessions.

Long-term residents cannot count on the terminal for regular commuting, turning instead to overland connections or capital gateways for international travel. The grounds still serve their original purpose as the operational base for Letalski center Maribor, the country's oldest flying club. Light aircraft share the apron with transport category jets, while state infrastructure authorities oversee airport management.
