The former Franciscan sanctuary stands inside the Medina as a physical marker of historic Spanish presence.

The site originated as a Roman Catholic establishment founded by Franciscan friars inside the coastal city. Sultan Hassan granted Moroccan territory directly to the Spanish monarch to enable construction of the sanctuary. Once erected, the compound operated as the official institutional seat of the Spanish church in Casablanca.

Әрі қарай оқу

Today the complex stands as a former church rather than a functioning Catholic parish within the Casablanca Medina. People relocating to the surrounding neighborhood encounter a preserved historical footprint rather than an ongoing mission. Its walls remain an enduring testament to past European ecclesiastical presence in the Moroccan port.
