Chilehaus anchors the Kontorhaus District as a functioning monument of Brick Expressionism, combining commercial offices with preservation status.

Architect Fritz Höger designed the angular structure for shipping magnate Henry B. Sloman, who financed the project through trading saltpeter from Chile. The brick complex spans Fischertwiete and forms the architectural core of the Kontorhaus District. Construction continued straight through national hyperinflation, producing a towering clinker-brick envelope that now holds UNESCO World Heritage recognition.
