Known locally as Orta Jame, the building stands as a central historical sanctuary commissioned by the Khimshiashvili family.

The building earned its traditional name of Orta Jame because it originally stood between flanking Muslim prayer houses that were later demolished. Commissioned by the family of the regional nobleman Aslan Beg Khimshiashvili, the structure established a vital civic anchor and continues to function as an active prayer house.

State anti-religious campaigns during the Soviet period forced the site to shut down and operate as a military storage facility. Following its return to the local Muslim community, comprehensive reconstruction added an open courtyard and a minaret alongside landscaped grounds to restore its functional capacity for daily congregations.
