Hudson: cosa c’è intorno, come arrivare e quando andare · 2026

Living along the waterway means planning around passenger rail corridors on the east shore while tracking tidal shifts that reach far inland.

Informazioni sul luogo

The Hudson River functions as a major tidal estuary connecting northern wilderness directly to the Atlantic Ocean.

Originating in the Adirondacks at Henderson Lake, the river flows south to form state and county boundaries before emptying into New York Bay. Glacial movement carved the lower Hudson Fjord, leaving a channel deeper than its outlet. Ocean tides push inland toward Troy, reversing the river flow across the lower half of the channel.

Settlement along the banks stems from Algonquian communities, followed by Dutch trading posts at New Amsterdam, Wiltwyck, and Fort Orange. The corridor evolved into an agricultural valley under British administration and later anchored the Continental Congress framework through colonial agreements formulated along the water.

Navigable waters accommodate ocean-going ships as far north as Albany, with the state canal system routing freight onward past Troy. Metro-North and Amtrak track alignments run along the eastern shore, while major vehicular spans like the George Washington Bridge link the lower valley across the busy maritime shipping channel.

1 DAY - TRAVELING AROUND THE USA

Our first day was spent in New York. Although we had a quick look around when we arrived in the States, this time we decided to thoroughly explore the most interesting spots. We left our luggage in storage for $6 per suitcase (for the day) using the BagNB app. We got right up to the Empire State Building—New York's very first skyscraper—and walked through the main park, where we were caught in a hailstorm, resulting in wet shoes. We turned red in front of the National Museum of American History staff when, instead of the stated ticket price ($23), we only paid $5😅 Finally, we tried American McDonald's! The burger was very greasy, but the fries were delightful with their crispy texture (though for the price, you could buy 6 kg in Minsk). Then we went to the Hudson Yards area, where we found modern architecture led by a staircase-observation deck structure that looks like a superhero mask😂 After about 100 photos of that staircase, we walked to the 9/11 Memorial (~6 km). The place holds so many tears and human sorrow, yet people sit on the memorial and smile for photos 🤷🏼‍♀️ Next to it is a transport hub shaped like a flying bird. If @alexandramitroshina is to be believed, it is also a sundial that projects holograms of the Twin Towers on September 11th. Not far from the memorial is New York's busiest business street—Wall Street. Unfortunately, it was already dark by the time we got there, so we didn't catch the busiest people 😅 The last point on our route was the Statue of Liberty, which we tried so hard to reach that day. But since we had a flight in a couple of hours, we didn't have time to take a boat ride, but that wasn't a problem! There is a park near the port that we went to. Since the statue is about 3 km away from there, we were able to enjoy the view of the statue ☺️ Since our flight was at 6 AM, we decided not to book accommodation and spent the night at the airport. The last shuttle was leaving in 1.5 hours, so we headed to the airport... https://www.instagram.com/alexandramitroshina/

Assel Zholdasbek on Instagram: "Our route:🚴🏻‍♀️ Station🚉 Harlem -125 St (NY) Marcus Garvey Park Columbia University Central Park Apple Store 5th Avenue Pier 84 Hudson River Park Times Square Grand Central 🚉 ——— I've dreamed of cycling through New York for a long time😻 a little bit about something: The most amazing thing is that we started our day at Columbia University and finished at Times Square, where we met a master's student from the SAME university. And then we found out that he graduated from the SAME university where I am currently studying - MNU/KAZGUU. (He was the first Kazakh I've met in the USA in the three months I've been here😹) On the way home on the train, I remembered another student whom my friends and I met on the "Pirates of the Baltic Sea" cruise. He is doing his second master's degree in Finland. In Boston, there are also two Kazakh girls from NIS Shymkent, both named Assel: one graduated from Yale University and now works at Harvard, the other just started her master's degree there. ——— Such stories inspire me incredibly. You hear their stories, and the thought immediately pops into your head: "Wait, was that even possible?" It's interesting that these people don't even suspect it) Thank you, you are the best!!!
