08.23.2012 Miami, FL. Never a day without an adventure)

My story in Miami started off pretty fun)) I arrived, a couchsurfer picked me up from the airport, again in a black BMW)) It was almost night, and besides me, his friend was in the car, so at first, getting into his car, I felt a bit tense) But then I decided not to think about the bad stuff, and to some club nonsense playing from the speakers, I drove through the night, sparkling Miami, charging myself with positivity) My host told me that he already had 3 Russian girls living with him, but he didn't like them) He said they were always making demands and ate all the food from his fridge) Yeah, the Russian mentality is immediately noticeable))) Upon arrival, he let me talk to them on the phone; they turned out to be fellow Work and Travel participants, and they were just as unhappy with him, saying he was weird. You don't even know who to believe) At night, around 3 AM, these girls came to him, took their things, and left. They told me to be careful with him. In the morning, my host and I went to the beach. He was very happy that those girls had moved out, and he also said that my English was better than theirs) Although I noticed that he was really weird; I would tell him something, and he would ask the same thing again, as if he didn't understand me.. well, he is Spanish himself, so maybe my Russian accent was completely incomprehensible to him)) Upon arriving at the beach, he asked me if I had money to pay for his car parking. The question seemed strange to me, but in any case, I don't carry documents or money to the beach so that no one steals them. I said I didn't have any, and he paid with his card. What was on the beach cannot be described in words. White, white sand.. blue, boundless, and warmest ocean.. I even take cooler showers than that))) It's just paradise... For the evening, I already had a meeting planned with Alex, that same acquaintance who wants to make friends between Russia and America) He was even in Moscow on courses at RSUH, studying the Russian language and culture there) In the evening, Alex picked me up, and we went to admire the night Miami) We sat in a cafe, went to the night beach.. Oh, beauty))) The next day I wake up, and my host suddenly declares that he can't host me for another night and that I should look for another place. Honestly, I was stunned)) Maybe it's because I didn't pay for his parking?) Or did those girls spoil his attitude towards Russians so much that he can no longer stand me in his house??)) And after that, he did something so crazy that I barely restrained myself from an outburst) Before I left the house, he told me to wash the dishes after myself. OK, no problem, it's not hard for me to wash the dishes, since I use them too. While I was washing them, he brought me all the dishes that were in his house, considering that he had never washed them after himself while I was living with him))) In general, a total disaster) After all this, I leave the house, Alex was already waiting for me to go to the beach (by the way, Alex also has a black BMW, what is this anyway))). And then I start yelling in my native Russian profanity in the center of Miami that this is a total mess, and this goat has completely lost his mind)) After all this, Alex asks me in Russian: What happened?? Oh my god, I was so happy at that moment that an American understood me)) I explained the whole situation to him, well, in English, and... American miracles!) Alex offered me to come to his place, after checking with his mom if it was okay) He had invited me to stay at his place before, but I decided to travel through couchsurfing, I didn't want to bother him at home too much. Well, now there's nowhere else to go)) I'm just loving my summer) All this summer I meet such people who help me in everything and save me from all sorts of troubles)) Either I'm lucky in life, or America is such a wonderful country)) After the beach, I moved to Alex's, met his mom, she is so insanely sweet, it's just something) But in t

20.08.2012 Washington, DC.

Another stop on my travel has passed. I spent the last 2 days in DC. It's even quieter and calmer here than in Boston))) The trip here was awful though - the bus was such a freezer all night that not even my jeans, sneakers, t-shirt, jacket, and a towel on top could save me. Actually, these Americans really love to turn every room into a freezer) That freezer in the US Embassy in Moscow (anyone who's been there knows what I mean)) is just the tip of the iceberg) Americans are just obsessed with the cold. At first, while staying at Greg's or Rich's, I was just freezing. Public transport also constantly blasts the AC - in trains, buses... And they are also obsessed with ice water) nobody here drinks water, juice, soda, etc. at room temperature. It must be with ice, and every American has ice in their freezer for drinks)) Well, that was a lyrical digression, now I'll tell you about my adventures) I arrived, my couchsurfer met me at the station in a black BMW and drove me to his house. At first, I was very afraid to go to him because he was Turkish and there were only a couple of reviews about him. I only went because there were no other housing options. But in the end, he turned out to be my best host ever)) I called my travel companion and we went for a walk) On the first day, we explored the National Museum of Natural History (where they filmed Night at the Museum, yup)) It's so cool! Then we went to a couple more museums and walked around the center. On the second day, we went for a walk, first had breakfast on a bench with yogurts and a salad that his gay hosts gave him)) But strangely enough, they turned out to be good guys))) We walked around more museums and the botanical garden... It's so great that it's all free, right?) The only thing that spoiled the mood a little was the rain. But we found the positive in that too - we left one museum, ran through the rain, and entered the same museum, just wet)) hahaha, well that happened by accident, we just thought there was no entrance where the exit was, but we needed to enter.. So we ran to the entrance, and then it turned out we could have entered from the exit side) But we ran in the downpour and had fun)) After that, we didn't care about the rain, we walked right through it) And we even found some kind of vent blowing warm air, climbed onto it, and started drying off))) Then we went up to some observation thing to see the city from above. And then we even grabbed a couple of souvenirs)) This morning I met up with Yulia, that same girl from Russia who has lived most of her life in America. I was very happy to see her)) we still spoke English because her Russian isn't that good) Today a plane to sunny Miami awaits me and I'll be there today))) Wow, I can't believe my luck)) The travel continues...

TWO DAYS TO GO... OR HOW AMERICA DIDN'T WANT TO LET ME GO

The bus picked us up at 3 a.m. Registration again. Security. The guard saw I had liquids (bottles from Duty Free) and said he couldn't let Polina, another guy, and me through. More problems... the three of us went to the operators, and a female manager went to check the rules regarding this. We all said in unison: - But this was bought at your own Duty Free!! - Those are the rules. I got angry: - I spent over a hundred dollars on all this, do you think I'm going to leave it here just because your flight didn't take off and we were forced to go to a hotel??? In the end, the manager went and found us boxes with foam and tape so we could pack it all up and check it as luggage. It took about 40 minutes. When I was checking my box, the operator said to me: - Where is your sticker on your passport for your other luggage?? I said: - I don't know, they didn't give me anything. That's when the problems started for me alone. There were issues with my luggage; they couldn't find it. They said I'd find out before boarding. We all went through security together. The flight was delayed again for 20 minutes. We were already preparing for the worst. But thank God, boarding was announced. I went up to the operators and asked if they had found my luggage. One told me nothing was known. And that's when my eyes went dark with anger. I gave him such a tirade in English that I was amazed at myself! He started trying to calm me down. I just turned around and walked away. Later, on board the plane, one of the operators found me and informed me that my luggage had been found and loaded. Thank God. We are on board the plane flying to Paris! Is this really true?? Polina immediately buckled up, took out a blanket, and fell asleep. So much so that when the flight attendant shook her to make sure she was buckled up, Polinka didn't even react. In the end, the flight attendant lifted the blanket and made sure everything was fine. Then Vika and I also passed out. The 8 hours to Paris flew by unnoticed. Paris! We are halfway home. 2 hours until boarding. Everything is so expensive here!! French perfume in France costs more than in NY! A paradox! A slice of pizza is twice as expensive. And what kind of people live here?? Boarding. First class. If you've driven a BMW, you won't want to get into a ZAZ. If you've been to America, you won't want to live in Russia. If you've flown first class, you don't want to fly economy anymore! :) A separate flight attendant, a separate restroom, a stack of fresh fashion magazines, a lunch of scallops, fried chicken with spices, curry sauce with coconut milk and tomato, thick polenta with Italian cheese and baby spinach, blue cheese, and for dessert, a shortcrust pastry tartlet with mango, and, of course, French wines and champagne – it was all just gorgeous!! And the view of the shimmering Eiffel Tower and evening Paris gave us simply indescribable impressions!! We felt like truly chic ladies!!
