Informazioni sul luogo

Promenade des Anglais borders the Mediterranean coast, spanning the urban shoreline from Nice Côte d'Azur Airport to Quai des États-Unis.

Wintering English aristocrats initiated the coastal walkway when severe cold brought displaced laborers to the Mediterranean shore. Reverend Lewis Way and congregants of Holy Trinity Anglican church funded the initial path construction. City officials subsequently expanded the route, which locals called Camin deis Anglés in the Niçois dialect until French annexation established its official French name.

The promenade stretches from Nice Côte d'Azur Airport to Quai des États-Unis, forming part of the coastal Route nationale connecting Toulon with Menton. The roadway hosts prominent cycling events, including Tour de France stages, team time trials, and the Tour de France Femmes. Staging these athletic competitions transforms the primary pedestrian concourse into a closed sporting arena, cutting off regular vehicular transit.
