À propos du lieu

Ulriksdal Palace stands along Edsviken as an intact royal retreat shaped by generations of Swedish rulers and court architects.

Built as Jakobsdal for Jacob De la Gardie by architect Hans Jacob Kristler on the banks of Edsviken, the estate passed to Queen Hedvig Eleonora, who renamed it after Prince Ulric. Nicodemus Tessin the Elder planned the lakeside wings and lantern roof, while Carl Hårleman later added a distinctive Swedish mansard roof. Queen Louisa Ulrika established the Confidencen theatre for royal court life.

The Swedish crown repurposed the complex into a hospital for war veterans, which emptied the historic state apartments. Prince Charles revived the property as a summer retreat with architect Fredrik Wilhelm Scholander, purchasing extensive antique suites. Louise Mountbatten later modernized the former knights' hall with Carl Malmsten furniture, and preserved rooms display royal craft and silver.
