À propos du lieu

The Summer Garden functions as a formal island park and an outdoor branch of the Russian Museum.

The park covers an island bounded by the Neva, Fontanka, Moika, and the Swan Canal in central Saint Petersburg. Designed as a formal monument of landscape architecture, the territory operates as an official division of the Russian Museum. Alleys cut across the greenery between historic water barriers, housing preserved marble originals and reconstructed copies of classical mythology figures alongside royal estate grounds.

Its layout took form after imperial forces seized the territory from Sweden during the Great Northern War. Peter the Great placed his adjacent Summer Palace on the grounds, establishing a royal summer residence that later integrated a public memorial to fable writer Ivan Krylov. Long-term residents use these paths as a quiet walking corridor, though water boundaries and museum regulations limit access points across the canals.
