À propos du lieu

The zoological garden stands inside the Al-Zawraa urban park complex as a rare center for wildlife care and public recreation.

The facility occupies grounds within the Al-Zawraa public park development alongside an amusement park and the central observation tower. Trade sanctions during the previous decade restricted essential animal medicines and dietary supplies. Enclosures suffered extensive physical destruction and severe looting during warfare, which left only a handful of large carnivores and domestic animals alive across the site.

Recovery began when Iraqi veterinarians and international conservationists secured the perimeter, delivered emergency rations, and restored sanitary standards. Specialized teams restocked the enclosures by transferring rescued predators and ungulates from abandoned private estates across the capital. Today the grounds serve as a core leisure destination for urban families seeking open greenery in the central district.
