À propos du lieu

Pura Dalem Sakenan anchors spiritual life on Serangan with antique coral walls and centuries of coastal pilgrimage traditions.

Priest Mpu Kuturan founded the sanctuary before the fall of the Majapahit kingdom to advance Balinese Hinduism across the island. The shrine venerates rambut sedhana and remains deeply tied to prosperity rituals. While surrounding villagers expanded the western compound, original perimeter walls made of coastal limestone and reef coral remain intact.

The grounds host large gatherings during the cyclical Piodalan festival, drawing worshippers from across Bali. Devotees historically reached the shoreline on foot or crossed the water in painted wooden jukung vessels. Land reclamation and bridge construction replaced maritime transit with road access, ending the traditional boat journeys across the channel.
