À propos du lieu

Former military grounds now provide extensive municipal parkland amid dense urban blocks.

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department manages this public park on land once occupied by the British Army at Whitfield Barracks. Municipal redevelopment cleared military installations to establish landscaped grounds with a Chinese garden set inside English terrain, an aviary, and a floral clock, transforming a restricted garrison into open public grounds.

Transit tunnel excavation and road engineering cut through park boundaries, creating development delays across multiple construction stages. The commercial strip along Nathan Road known as Park Lane Shoppers Boulevard sparked public opposition from the municipal council and the neighbouring mosque, but its built rooftops integrate directly into the elevated park walkways above street level.

Funding from the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club expanded the grounds to the north and south, adding a dedicated sports centre and an extensive swimming pool complex. These athletic facilities turn the park into an active municipal recreation hub where residents secure indoor training and lane swimming just steps from busy shopping districts.
