À propos du lieu

Rote Flora stands as a self-managed autonomous centre rooted in neighbourhood resistance.

The former theatre on Schulterblatt in the Sternschanze district evolved across several eras, hosting concerts, variety revues, boxing matches, a cinema, and a discount shop. A proposal to convert the building into a commercial musical venue sparked resistance from residents who wanted a communal space instead. Protests and construction sabotage eventually pushed authorities into granting a temporary community lease.

When the temporary agreement expired, local occupants refused to vacate the premises and declared the site an autonomous social centre. The collective maintains the property as an independent gathering point outside municipal control. Living near the complex brings continuous political activity and community meetings directly onto the surrounding footpaths, defining the civic rhythm of the district.
