À propos du lieu

Hamburg City Hall anchors state governance and municipal power right in the Altstadt core.

The building functions simultaneously as the municipal headquarters and the seat of a German state parliament. A consortium of architects designed the complex following a devastating urban fire in the historic district. Today, the First Mayor and the Senate conduct daily administrative business inside the halls, maintaining active legislative assemblies alongside the public market square.

Beyond executive meetings, the surrounding Rathausmarkt serves as an assembly ground for political rallies, historic memorial gatherings, and major civic events. Foreign heads of state routinely arrive here for diplomatic receptions. The interior layout remains vast and intricate, to the extent that staff once discovered an entire overlooked chamber hidden behind office furniture during routine administrative searches.
