Having seen everything we needed in Washington, we didn't think twice before heading to our next destination, Philadelphia. So, the city is Philadelphia, the weather is always sunny. Philadelphia became our shopping hub. The thing is, we accidentally stumbled upon a store selling brand-name items at a very low price. And there were a lot of items. A lot. And it turned out that we spent half our time in Philadelphia looking at shirts, jackets, and ties. (Shut up and take my money). Getting hungry, we rushed to find a place to satisfy our hunger. And we found one. The point of this cafe was that every slice of pizza was sold for a dollar. But the main highlight was that absolutely all the walls were covered with stickers on which different thoughts from different visitors were written. We found it very atmospheric and at least original. We didn't stay on the sidelines and left a reminder of ourselves. In Philadelphia, we didn't manage to see the sights at all. And it wasn't our fault, it was the 'Made in America' festival that coincided with our stay, because of which the entire city center was closed. But we weren't upset, because we were full, and in our bag lay brand-name items for which we would have had to pay an indecent amount of money in Russia. The next day we had to set off for New York. And at that moment, I probably hated the units of measurement and time format in the USA for the first time all summer. For those who don't know, America uses completely different, logically unjustified units of measurement. Also, they use a 12-hour time format. And so, instead of buying a ticket for 9 a.m., I buy a ticket for 9 p.m. And that means we spend another day in Philadelphia; a condition that did not suit us at all. And we had to buy another ticket and set off from where we started. (Comeback) So, the city is New York, the mood is downcast. Arriving in New York, I realized that there were only two days left before we returned to Russia, and this thought did not leave me until the very flight. First of all, we went to where we could soak up the Russian spirit – Brighton Beach. We were primarily interested in what kind of place it was and if everything there was really so Russian? It turned out that yes, but there is one problem. Russia in Brighton is the Russia of the 90s. Little Russia seemed very sad, dull, and uninteresting to us. People looked unhappy, young people were almost absent. Looking at all this, I wanted to return to America, and we did just that. We spent the second day in New York walking along Broadway. It felt like you had only arrived here yesterday and walked through these same places, but in reality, it was a distant three months ago. And each time it became more joyful for me to remember all those places that we had passed in New York. Maybe that is the magical power of this city – the more you think about it, the more you love it. At the very beginning, I said that New York disappointed. No, after all, New York charmed. And how does it manage to do that? The trip came to an end, and the captain of the New York – Moscow flight greeted us and wished us a pleasant flight. The same was done later by the captain of the Moscow – Tyumen plane. So, the city is Tyumen, the feeling is Well, that's it...

My journey to America began in the northern city of Surgut. First, I had to get to Tyumen. On the 3rd at 1 a.m., I was seen off on the train, and in my mind, I said goodbye to my hometown for 4 months. I wouldn't say I was sad to leave; rather, I was anticipating something much more interesting. The trip to Tyumen took 12 hours by train, and I slept through the whole thing after a sleepless week)) In Tyumen, I met an old friend, and at 7:40 p.m., the plane took off for Moscow. We arrived at Domodedovo, I was walking past the people waiting and bumped into a man with flowers... he was asking "Are you Tanya?" and gallantly held out a bouquet... but I recoiled and rushed forward) (though I probably should have taken the bouquet, ha...) In Moscow, I had a 10-hour layover! I thought that was it, I'd spend the night at the airport all alone. But that wasn't the case; I called my cousin, and he and his friend drove me around Moscow) I didn't see anything, but I had a great time))) At 3 a.m., I was already checking in for the Moscow-London flight. Almost the entire plane was packed with J-1 students))) The crew was English, and only one flight attendant spoke Russian. It was curious to communicate with an Englishman not in a classroom, but in real life)) We flew to London for 5 hours. By then, I was physically exhausted, but I still had a 6-hour layover in London and 7 hours to New York. It was the longest and most tedious layover of my life(( We sat in the terminal, and I walked around the shops about 500 times. The only thing is their currency is pounds, and I only had dollars, and I really wanted to buy souvenirs... I was surprised by how many books people buy; the book section was the most popular. My joy knew no bounds when boarding began! But there were still 7 hours ahead, although I comforted myself with the thought of sleeping through all 7 hours—oh, how naive I was))) I flew with Virgin Atlantic. They immediately handed out headphones and a traveler's kit as a gift: a sleep mask, socks, a pen, a toothbrush and toothpaste, all in their signature red color))) In short, all those 7 hours they kept feeding us: a main course, ice cream, dessert, candy, various drinks—as you can imagine, I didn't get any sleep. Plus, there wasn't a single movie in Russian(( And then, arrival in New York. My soul was filled with so much joy and emotion that this was it, America!! We went through customs, picked up our suitcases, and I was already heading to the train when I saw Dasha; she had come to meet me) We were planning to go to Virginia Beach, but we thought it over quickly and decided to stay here)) For the first day, we checked into a motel for $60, where I finally took a shower and slept in a huge bed. That's how my stay in America began)))

The day has finally come when I get to see one of my favorite bands live!!!!! I'm beyond excited!! I worked until late evening (so tired... It's a 40-minute bike ride to the club.... ...Joseph couldn't make it to the concert with me(( he's hosting a new couchsurfer! Joseph is a golden human being! We need more people like him in Russia =) Can't really drink beer at the club, Heineken is $5, and the worst Bud and Miller are $4/////// Bought myself a t-shirt and a CD! (gonna get an autograph after the show ;) Funny thing, Dysrhythmia is opening for Cynic!!!!!!!!! ooooooooo Their bassist is the insane Colin Marston from Behold... The Arctopus!!!! He shreds like hell!!!! The sound was amazing, nothing like our Tyumen sound, =D goosebumps... After Dysrhythmia's set, I took a photo with the drummer and guitarist and chatted with them a bit (writing this with a translator) Me: Hey guys!! Can I take a photo with you! -Sure dude! Where are you from? (my accent gave it all away!!!!!! haha) Me: I'm from Russia! -ooo Moscow? -no, Siberia!!! -oooooooo -I came to the USA just to see Cynic! -oooooo dude you're crazy!!! We'll buy you a beer!!! I will never forget this concert! When most of the crowd had left, Paul Masvidal and Sean Reinert came out—I think anyone familiar with death metal knows who they are! I took photos with them, chatted a bit, and got an autograph! And all the way home, I couldn't stop smiling! =)

21.06.10 Writing briefly and concisely... I knew I'd forget something, and it turned out to be my notebook! Writing in a notepad. The flight from Tyumen to Moscow went well. Except for one unpleasant incident related to a 2-hour flight delay. So, if you don't want to be late, the airline Sky Express is not for you, the only plus is cheap tickets;) Vnukovo Airport didn't show itself in the best light... renovations, but compared to our Roshchino, its size is impressive. After getting to the center of Moscow by marshrutka for 100 rubles per head, we (by "we" I mean my friend Gleb and myself, we are going to discover America together) first of all ate, and of course it was done in... guess for yourself))) Then we needed to call the hostel and find out if there were any spots. A call via a payphone costs 6 rubles, which is not a big difference from our Tyumen Beeline at 10 rubles, considering that for a payphone you have to look for a card, and that's just a waste of time. Having called the hostel, we asked to reserve two spots in a 10-bed room for our overnight stay). *note: If you are traveling far, be sure to plan your actions so as not to end up in a situation where there is nowhere to sleep. Glory to the internet))) Next, our path lay to Red Square. On the square are the Lobnoye Mesto, the monument to Minin and Pozharsky, Uncle Lenin's Mausoleum, next to which is the Necropolis by the Kremlin Wall, where figures (mainly political and military) of the Soviet state are buried (besides that, in the 1920s-30s, foreign communists were also buried there). hehe Beauty!!! Posting a couple of photos. I would like to say a few words about the hostel separately. For 500 rubles, you get a quite comfortable bed, internet (there are 2 computers), a shower, a kitchen, a laundry room, there is a TV and books))) And the biggest plus - almost only American students stay there))) So the first contact with "foreigners" went successfully. PS One American girl told me how she traveled by train and she considers platzkart-type carriages "someone's crazy idea" hehehe She also noticed one characteristic trait of Russians, quoting with translation: "They drink, but they don't get drunk!!!!" Tyumen. So, dear readers, I present to you the story "The Embassy! It's Simple!" The main events unfold right before the "Embassy" and within its walls. Why there? The reason is statistics. I conducted a survey: "What is more interesting: the Embassy in Yekaterinburg or instructions on filling out a visa application and other pre-consular trifles?" Surprisingly, the majority chose the "former." The first steps are not as interesting, it seems to me. Therefore, I will not focus on them. Filling out a visa application is a very fascinating activity, but I prefer more vital or lively topics. What do I remember from the shore (Tyumen)? Probably our general gathering (of our group, which was getting a visa in April 2009) at the CMO office. A magnificent opportunity to get to know our comrades in "misfortune or fortune," exchange phone numbers, and agree on a joint trip to Yekaterinburg by train (for example). After a thorough briefing, and it was exactly that, some of us decided to continue this meeting. We moved to a cozier place, a nearby cafe. We ordered lunch, relaxed, and continued the meeting. What topics weren't there: What to do if there are problems with the language? How to prepare better and what is better to prepare for the embassy? The main advice boiled down to the following: Do not be nervous, get enough sleep the night before, find a list of common questions on the Internet and memorize them, rehearse with friends, etc. The most interesting question of the entire meeting: What is going on with swine flu? This topic intrigued everyone present. Of course, it did not relate to the upcoming interview, but it was very fresh and entertaining. Everyone expressed their opinion, and it was my turn. R – guys; A – author; R: What do you think about this? A: I don't really imagine the possible consequences, but I see "its instigators" quite clearly! R: What do you mean? A: I mean, where did it come from!? R: And where did it come from? A: This is a trick by Muslims. They don't eat pork, right? This plays into their hands (I joked). R: (the reaction to the joke followed immediately) Everyone started smiling. Who would have thought that it wouldn't be limited to our company! What am I talking about? Probably about the cold hand that fell on my shoulders at the end of my joke. Who could it be? Our neighbors, at the next table, which was right next to us. Who was sitting there? And here are some more characters – Muslims! Everything is not so scary. A few moments later, a smile broke out on the face of the owner of this "cold hand." He even praised me on behalf of all his friends. The next day we gathered at the railway station and set off on a "great hike." We traveled for four hours, which is more than enough to prepare for the interview one more time and rest.

Such an exciting wait for the Embassy. But it's a pleasant excitement with wonderful hopes for the trip. Expectations of travel, new acquaintances, new cities. And a very strong desire to take photos. Everything that seems interesting. To take photos and show them to my friends in Tyumen, and relive everything all over again, sitting in some cozy Tyumen cafe with a cup of hot cappuccino. I even know which cafe it will be) And then, on long winter evenings, to look through the photos, remember new friends, laugh, and write to them on ICQ: "Looking at the photos where we are (you, me))...." I think it will be wonderful) Get ready, friends, those I'm going with, I don't plan to let the camera out of my hands during all my free time)
