As long as I can remember, despite the chaos surrounding me that sweeps me away in a whirlwind of colors, glitter, and paint, I have always written down plans that stack up into endless skyscrapers of lists. America was the last place on Earth I wanted to go to chase my dream. And despite all those multi-story to-do lists, I sometimes don't notice how, while deviating from the plan and helping others, the road I'm walking on winds and leads me to unexpected places. So, one day, a friend asked me for help organizing an event for a company in Vladivostok that deals with an exchange program, providing students the opportunity to work and travel in the USA during the summer. My task was to pretend to be a student interested in the program and ask leading questions from a list. Now, I realize they did their job well; that PR meeting influenced my decision too. That same spring, I found a Master's degree program in Media and Design in the Netherlands, One orange tulip, taught in English. As a child, my mom and I lived in New Zealand, and I might have kept a decent English foundation, but due to a lack of practice, passing the exam with the required score seemed incredibly difficult. And, just as I was taught to swim by being thrown into a pool, I decided to put myself in a situation where there was no Russian speech, so I would have no choice but to start speaking English. Of all the American dreams, I felt closest to San Francisco, perhaps because its hills and bridges are often compared to Vladivostok. My friend, who went there through the Work and Travel USA program, warned me about the likely difficulties I might face, but found that I could easily find a suitable summer job on Craigslist. The only thing he asked me to pay attention to was that it's a city full of creative people, so I could leave my A4 resume written in Times New Roman at home, and that any employer would be happy if a rainbow and colorful ponies poured out of my letter. A letter to America would have arrived by the following winter, so I wrote the website http://eastpatterns.ru/. One part of it was a blog about places where sales experience helped me see the beauty in making people happy, and the other was a page with a list of all my previous jobs, my responsibilities, and skills. As it turned out, some people in California forget that there is a world beyond their state, and they completely ignored the Russia country code before the phone number in my contact details; they tried in vain to call me, ending up in Denver or some other unknown American cities. And, since I do everything at the last minute in a very Russian way, the deadline for submitting visa documents was approaching, and I needed to focus my attention on passing my summer exams, so I asked the International Exchange Center for help in finding a job offer. The only condition I couldn't compromise on was the sea. So, I was destined to spend the summer in a small tourist town in New England, in the state of Maine, Ogunquit, the name of which I only managed to read clearly right before my interview at the consulate. Furthermore, I was given enough time to decide if I had even chosen the right country to go to; all over the world, US consulates were experiencing technical glitches, and my interview, which was already very late, was postponed until the end of June.

The coming summer is no exception. Hundreds of thousands of Russian-speaking students and graduates are already in full swing, packing their bags to head out toward new discoveries, encounters, and sensations. Among them is a student from a Russian university who won the “TSMO-2049” contest and received a free trip through the “Work and Travel 2029” program. Our office staff met with Travelina Vorkinyuk to find out some details about her personal life and her plans for the upcoming summer season. – Hi, Travelina. First of all, congratulations on your brilliant victory in the contest! You have such an unusual name. What is the story behind it? – Hello. Thank you for the congratulations! The story of my mysterious name began 20 years ago, when TSMO announced the recruitment for the next “Work and Travel 2009” season. My parents met in New York – the amazing “city that never sleeps.” Ironically, my mom and dad were planning a tour to Niagara Falls, organized by the International Exchange Center in America. That’s where their whirlwind romance began, which continues to this day. And I was born the year after their next trip. You could say I was christened in honor of this program. (laughs) – How romantic!.. So, it has become a family tradition for you? – Exactly. My parents, however, only managed to participate in the program twice. At that time, it was only available to students up to their fifth year inclusive. As for me, I have already been an international exchange student twice. This will be my third time. And I plan to make such trips at least four more times. I hope that in the near future, Luxembourg and Switzerland will join the list of countries, as I am studying German and would really like to activate the language in a natural environment. – Interesting, do your preferences align with your parents' choices? – Back when the “Work and Travel” program was just gaining momentum and there wasn't a large choice of where to go (besides the USA, there was only France), my parents didn't have to rack their brains about it. Since then, the boundaries of choice have expanded significantly. Even if you, of course, only speak English besides Russian, it is extremely difficult to decide: either Canada with super friendly people and a stable economy, or England with its rich traditions and “posh” English, or even Australia with its unusually rich flora and fauna (even if it is winter there!). And I won't even mention the students studying Spanish and French! Belgium, France, Spain… – Travelina, will you reveal the secret of your upcoming trip? – With pleasure. My destination will be New Zealand. This summer, TSMO announced an international exchange season between New Zealand and Australia. In my opinion, this is a great chance to cover the features of two cultures at once and make even more contacts. – Please tell us more, what does the international exchange season between these countries consist of? – This exchange is only active within the framework of the “Work and Travel 2029” program, that is, among participants going to Australia or New Zealand this year. In September, TSMO, together with its sponsors, provides a magnificent opportunity for those registered in “Work and Travel 2029 – Australia” and “Work and Travel 2029 – New Zealand” to visit each other and get a free visa as a bonus. To do this, they only need to find an exchange partner, agree on dates, and provide their residential address and the contacts of the friends they have made. A similar season was already held in 2028 between America and Canada. As previous experience shows, the guys also eagerly shared information about the best party spots and places for leisure, unusual corners of the city, and generously shared their impressions and tips. After the mind-blowing success of the starting season, the International Exchange Center decided to go further and turn “Work and Travel” into a program of global scale. – How do you think the life and activities of TSMO hav
Good evening everyone. Or maybe it's morning... Or maybe someone decided to spend a few minutes during the day and wandered in here) Sit back and take your right/left? hand off your face). Straighten up and stretch. Are you really, really comfortable? Me too=) Well then, I'll continue. So, first, the most important thing... I'm very happy to have you. Why? Because if you're reading this, it means you're interested. If you're interested, I'm simply obliged to be grateful. And then... Then, I'll let you in on a little secret. No, not about aliens. And not even about the robots of the future. Brrr. That's so uncomfortable and just feels a bit off... The secret will be near the end, so you have to read what comes before the secret, otherwise all secrets told before they are supposed to be told aren't really secrets at all..=) It all started with me deciding to participate in a contest. "IEC - 2029". I made up my mind, but my thoughts didn't want to line up into a long and logical chain for a long time, and I didn't want to just make it up on the fly like in school. I read other blogs. I liked them. And everyone writes so interestingly. And so futuristic... Sigh, I thought, and decided it was too late, it was past midnight after all, wrote half a page of introduction and went to sleep. The morning is wiser than the evening... Alarm clock... I don't want to get uuuup.. Five more minutes... Well, at least four... I open my eyes, and everything around is somehow new... Hmm. - ¡por fin! - Switzerland? - Faire sa malle? - Luggage? Where is my luggage? The hum of voices merges into one and echoes. I don't understand anything. In front of my eyes, an inscription appears: “Work and Travel. Gather a group of 5 friends and any country of your choice!” A girl runs up to me, slightly out of breath, but smiling... Smiling! (And how do they have the patience for everyone? To answer five hundred and thirty-eight questions every day...) Office. Invites me to come in... (I love coming to their office. If everyone were as genuinely sweet, grumpy salespeople would disappear because they would be ashamed of their grumpiness, and it would be more pleasant for me to buy bread.) -Where are we going today? We have new... Wait a second! What tours? Where are we going? And what about the visa, the consulate? Choose first? Um.. Well, let's see... Sooo.... “235 countries, fill in the blank spots in the geography of life” Interesting... Can I book? How?? Booking half a year in advance?? And you calculate everything for me with discounts? Wow.... Aaah, can I go to Japan? Seriously, can I? And how do I communicate... I don't know Japanese at all((. What, can I go to New Zealand too? You're kidding... And to? Where-where?? To Antarctica to the icebergs??? And can I go, for example, where the Mayans lived? Um.. and to Bermuda? And to Tokelau and Fiji? I can't believe it... And I remember in 2010 I was sitting just like this choosing a state in America.. And it seems everyone only went there mostly.. So. I got distracted. I can't decide what to choose... I don't know that many languages, how do I go? New translator programs? They react themselves, and then explain everything too? O.o. How many languages will I learn like that.. I don't need that many.. Well yes, I agree... Although... The payment worries me..... Nooo.. It's probably expensive... It's completely out of my budget. Is it really, really possible to choose the amount to pay and the payment term? It's somehow unreal... And what is this bonus? Oh no.. I don't want to be in other people's dreams. I'm still a bit scared... You explain safety rules and trainings? Still somehow - I haven't decided yet... Well, what if they don't give me a visa? How is it that they give it to everyone this year? To everyone-everyone? Aaa, well, I didn't break any rules and I'm not in criminal circles. A couple of questions? Okay, I'll bring a statement from the dean's office that I promise to return). Come on, whatever you say

LIFE FLOWS I started reading a new book by Irvin Yalom, 'Staring at the Sun: Overcoming the Terror of Death.' Yalom is mind-blowing. He is magnificent! Yesterday at work, I was angry at myself. Sometimes I talk like a hypocrite. Who am I to make premature conclusions?! Now it is obvious that even at 'Mavericks' there are decent people. After a month of work, things are starting to get concrete. By the way, besides Kalita (stress on the second syllable)—the beautiful manager I mentioned earlier—I now like another girl from the 'dancers.' I don't understand where this comes from: when I like a woman, all words disappear, I don't know what to say. I usually feel stupid because of this. And I like them often. 'A woman is a miracle. And a gift.' Who said: 'Man is God and creator, and woman is Goddess and keeper'? I gradually came to this thought, which grew into a conviction. I won't shout about it in the middle of the street and convince everyone. It is enough to believe and feel. A person is a powerful source of energy. Our dreams have the potential to come true. Sometimes it seems to me that waves are starting to ripple out from me. Or rather, as if I myself am a wave, just spreading from the center in a circle. I am an energy cluster. An amazing feeling. And I didn't feel this in myself much before. I couldn't hold onto the energy for long. When a person meets their soulmate, their energies unite and the flow becomes more powerful—that's obvious. I finished reading 'The Bridge Across Forever' by Richard Bach the day before yesterday. Often people don't believe that such a level of relationship is possible. In his book, Bach talks about himself, his views, meeting his future wife, and much of what happened to them afterward without embellishment. For me, this is a book that extends a bridge to all of us, saying, 'You ask: if love exists, show us at least one couple who lives happily?! Okay, we'll tell you about us! After all, we are that couple!' A question I have never answered in my posts before: WHAT DO I WANT FROM LIFE? WHY DID I END UP IN AFRICA? Actually, this characterizes me to some extent. I don't like 'tested and tried.' Well, like America or Europe, in the case of travel. I want to be a pioneer, or almost one. If I knew of the existence of such a place on earth where no human foot had yet stepped—there is no doubt, almost certainly, I would want to go there. For roughly the same reason that I am here, I want to visit Australia, New Zealand, and New Guinea. Go somewhere in Asia. Vitka (a friend) is very attracted to everything Asian. So, I'm thinking about it too. By the way, I hope he will also be here in January—he will come to rest and visit. I think it will be great! Overall, regarding travel, I want to say that it is worth... traveling, seeing, FEELING. And as a 'final point' for me—a flight into space, from which I would get such a shake-up that I could say to myself afterward: well, that's it, Syom! You can go home now. And what is home? Seventy percent of it is we ourselves. Another twenty percent is the people surrounding us. And only ten percent is a specific place. But all of this is very, very important! Yes, and I also want to answer the question... WHO AM I? It always seems immodest, indecent, and too presumptuous to say that I am a writer. And a psychologist. Moreover, quite a good one. My tongue doesn't turn to say that. Besides, it's awkward and one could be subjected to serious criticism for this, even by oneself. But this is THE ONLY thing I can do (at least somehow), that I like, and in which I want to move and improve. And I dream, at least, of getting money for my literature. And since things haven't worked out with book royalties yet, I have to be 'somewhere in between' all the time. Desires and possibilities, for example. I'm terribly tired of working as who knows what all the time and doing all sorts of boring things. I don't want to delve into and spend a lot of time on things that don't inter
