Sobre el lugar

Gemmiskiy stands as an ancient coral stone sanctuary in the northern quarter of the island.

The mosque occupies ground in the Dhadimagu district on the isolated atoll of Fuvahmulah. Builders assembled the structure out of local coral stone during the early era following the regional conversion to Islam. Because of this early construction, the site remains among the most ancient surviving Muslim sanctuaries across the entire archipelago.

Sunni religious life on the atoll developed around this historic coral structure. A notable architectural feature of the prayer building is that it does not face towards the Qibla. Long-term visitors studying local island heritage encounter an enduring example of early Maldivian stone craftsmanship in its original settlement setting.
