Bicycles are the primary way to traverse the city due to its flat landscape and longstanding cycling culture. Dedicated bike paths and pedestrian crossings link the urban core with Lake Shkodër and local monuments. Rental shops and mechanics operate throughout central neighborhoods.

Shkodër lacks a single unified bus terminal. Intercity buses and minibuses arrive and depart from designated open gathering points, mainly around the central square near the fountain. Transport headed toward mountain valleys or coastal villages uses separate street corners around the city.

Cross-border buses link Shkodër directly with Podgorica and Ulcinj. Travelers can also arrange regional transport or private road transfers to the border crossings at Han i Hotit and Muriqan. Onward connections continue from the border checkpoints on the Montenegrin side.

Carp baked as tave krapi is the signature specialty of the area, sourced fresh from the lake and served in lakeside villages. Local restaurants also prepare traditional sweets such as sheqerpare along with pickled vegetables. Dining is concentrated along the pedestrian promenade and the riverfront.

Rozafa Castle commands the elevated terrain south of the city overlooking the confluence of the rivers. In the center, the Marubi National Museum of Photography preserves regional visual archives, while the Historical Museum occupies a preserved historic mansion. Nearby architectural monuments include the stone Mesi Bridge and Drisht Castle.
