Id Gah Mosque stands southeast of Wazir Akbar Khan as one of the major historic prayer grounds in the capital.

Emir Abdur Rahman Khan initiated construction of the complex, and his son Habibullah Khan finished the structure before leading congregational prayers on the site. King Amanullah Khan subsequently used the prayer grounds to rally support against British-Indian forces and formally proclaimed the independence of the nation here.
