A council convened a blasphemy trial to examine Stephen's contentious teachings across synagogues. During the hearing, the deacon delivered an uncompromising speech challenging the presiding authorities. That confrontation triggered immediate retribution, ending in his death by stoning. The future apostle Paul, then recorded as the Pharisee and Roman citizen Saul of Tarsus, observed the execution as a witness.
