Über den Ort

A vital multi-modal suspension link connects Manhattan and Brooklyn with heavy rail, roadway, and foot traffic.

The suspension bridge links Lower Manhattan at Canal Street directly with Downtown Brooklyn at Flatbush Avenue Extension. Engineer Leon Moisseiff designed the structure, which carries vehicular traffic, subway lines, cyclists, and pedestrians alongside the neighboring Brooklyn, Williamsburg, and Queensboro river crossings.

Commuters encounter distinct transport levels across the span. Dedicated subway tracks flank the lower roadway, carrying express services between Brooklyn and Manhattan. West tracks route trains toward the Broadway Line through Canal Street, while east tracks feed the Sixth Avenue Line via the Chrystie Street Connection.

Architectural details frame each terminal approach. The Manhattan entrance features a grand arch and colonnade conceived by Carrere and Hastings, while stone pylons mark the Brooklyn approach. Pedestrian walkways and separate bicycle paths run above the water, while municipal buses no longer operate regular bridge transit.

The first month that almost turned out to be the last.

June. ...a month that helped me rethink the value of my life. I arrived on May 22nd, and by June 1st, during my first weekend off granted by my employers John and Cindy, I visited the city I wanted to see most at that moment – New York. You simply can't describe this city and its atmosphere in words; you have to feel and hear it! In other words, enjoy the moment that is happening right now. During my two-day stay, I managed to visit Central Park and get caught in the rain, ride the subway multiple times, lose track of time at the famous Times Square, try sushi for the first time, and then visit the famous bar built in honor of Forrest Gump, aptly named "Bubba Gump." I watched the sunset from the 102nd floor of the Empire State Building, stuffed myself at McDonald's, got lost around the Manhattan Bridge and Brooklyn Bridge, and, of course, rode a double-decker sightseeing bus in 30-degree heat. In short, I had a crazy chase for time and emotions over 48 hours. As for the Statue of Liberty, I couldn't come to America and not visit it! And I did, but on August 28th, the day before my departure! June 10th. I'm lying on the asphalt hearing only my heartbeat, with noise all around, and through that noise, I hear car horns and the sound of tires on the pavement... (this moment reminded me of some movie where the hero kept getting into trouble). I was hit by a car... but it happened so fast that I only remember the car hitting me from the front and me flying off my bicycle, my favorite bike, and in that instant, I thought: "I should have gone to see that cinema tomorrow." Then, falling face-first onto the asphalt, I eventually ended up on my left side, and that was the moment I realized I was okay. But a broken nose... Up until June 26th, all I did was work, meet new people, and handle documents related to my work and J-1 Visa status. Oh, right, I almost forgot, I worked as an amusement ride operator, and my ride was called the "Ferris Wheel," or as we call it, but the real name of that wheel was "Giant Wheel." It was a very interesting job where I could spend a lot of time speaking English, thereby improving my level, and sitting in the shade with air conditioning in 35-degree heat. For an outdoor job, it's just super! Why did I choose June 26th? Because it's my birthday, and I had been waiting for it since I arrived in the USA. The day started with a Skype call from my parents. I was very happy about it, and at the same time, listening to the congratulations from home, I started to miss Kazakhstan and my friends who couldn't be there. But I especially missed my home that day. If only there were a way to fly back for one day, celebrate with everyone, and then fly back to the States in the morning. It was 12:16 AM when we finished talking, and I, as usual, jumped out of bed and went to wash up. When I went upstairs, no one was there; all ten of my roommates were already at work, working hard. I fried some sausages in the microwave and made eggs. This is, essentially, my usual lonely breakfast in the mornings in the absence of my savior, Aika. Perhaps she is the only person who worried about my hungry stomach, sometimes even more than I did! By one o'clock, I was at my usual workplace and wondering why no one was really congratulating me today? Maybe they were waiting for something? I turned on some rap in my headphones and waited for my clients. At 6 PM, I always had a break, and this day was no exception, but something had to happen. When I told Cindy and John (my employers) that I was going to grab a bite at McDonald's, they said I didn't need to go anywhere and that food was already prepared. At that moment, I finally realized they were waiting for six o'clock to congratulate me. And that's how it happened: before I could even reach the parking lot at the back of our amusement park, I saw Cindy carrying a bright green cake with my name written in frosting right in the center. And what else do you think they came up with? They went

Manhattan Bridge Park

August 28 The next day, I decided to show Regina the park that Peter once showed me - Manhattan Bridge Park. We walked there on foot, passing through Little Italy, Chinatown, and of course, the Brooklyn Bridge))))) You walk through the city, and everything feels so familiar, so dear to me now. Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge, I was surprised by the number of tourists, although it is Saturday! Of course there would be tourists here! But what amazes me even more is that so many years ago, someone built this massive miracle - the bridge!))) How is that even possible!!!) I even left a memory of myself on the bridge, somehow scratching something memorable with a red pen)))))) Regina was in a bad mood again, and for the second time, I regretted having someone with me right now. But trying not to get discouraged, I still tried to cheer her up; maybe she really was just in a bad mood!)))) And... I started singing Russian songs, starting with "In the forest a Christmas tree was born" and ending with "And we don't care!" (A nam vse ravno!)))))) And I felt so happy, I just wanted to jump around))))))) We arrived at this park, which was already familiar to me, and I almost went crazy from this beautiful place: the sun was already setting, beautifully illuminating the park! We sat down on the steps and for a while just silently enjoyed this beauty. Then, a few meters away from us, a guy in a suit stood up, set up his sheet music, and started playing the guitar... Something romantic, soulful, and thoughtful at the same time)) And right then, it seemed to me that I was the happiest person on earth!))) I asked him why he was playing? And he said, "There's going to be a wedding ceremony here soon." - "You play very soulfully!" - "Thank you))))" We cleared the space on the steps and moved further away, but still close enough to watch the ceremony)) the guests gathered, looking beautiful) There's the priest, the groom, the bridesmaids... everything is so romantic! The view of Manhattan... And then, floating on the water... yellow canoes (kayaks)!!! And it would have been fine if they were just floating by, wherever they were going! But they started approaching the shore and pulling the kayaks onto the beach! And there were about 15 of them! It was probably an excursion tour with stops)))) If it had been my wedding, I would have been very upset, but this absurd situation cheered me up a little)) After all, you can never plan everything down to the smallest detail. That's why I try never to make plans - everything can turn upside down in an instant!)
