Tenants settling near Tower Hill navigate visitor crowds around the fortress perimeter by day, but gain empty streets once the evening guard locks the gates.

A stone fortress anchors the eastern edge of the historic City.

The citadel stands on the boundary between Tower Hamlets and the square mile of the City of London. William the Conqueror began the stone complex with the White Tower to overawe local citizens after the Norman invasion. Concentric defensive walls and an encircling moat protect the inner grounds, where monarchs maintained royal residences and secured the Crown Jewels behind heavy masonry.

Daily life around the perimeter blends institutional ceremony with heavy pedestrian movement. Armed detachments from the King's Guard mount watch beside resident Yeomen Warders, performing the Ceremony of the Keys at nightfall. The fortress also houses the regimental headquarters of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. Living nearby means hearing scheduled ceremonial gun salutes alongside the morning rush of office commuters.

Yes, in London! You know, the place with fish, chips, and awful weather...

...Although the weather was surprisingly sunny and warm all week that I spent in London. Walking around London is a special pleasure. Tower Bridge is the most famous bridge in London, being one of the city's symbols. Tower Bridge differs from all other London bridges and indeed all bridges over the Thames in the following way: it is the lowest bridge on the Thames and the only one of all the bridges that is a bascule bridge. The bridge got its name due to its proximity to the Tower of London: the northern end of the bridge is located near the southeast corner of the Tower. St. Paul's Cathedral is located at the highest point in London. This largest Anglican church in Europe is the seat of the Bishop of London. The cathedral's dome has become one of London's main attractions. Traditionally, St. Paul's is the burial place of the most famous citizens of Great Britain, including the architect Christopher Wren, who built this cathedral. There is no monument on his grave, only an inscription on the tombstone: "Reader, if you seek his monument, look around you." You don't have to have royal roots, but you always want to see a luxurious palace. Especially if it's Buckingham Palace in London! The palace is unique not only for its grandeur but also because it hosts official ceremonies and events of the Royal Family, and tourists come here for tours. Although, it is almost always closed to the public. There are many museums in London: the British Museum, the Westminster Abbey Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Natural History Museum in London, and the Sherlock Holmes Museum. Admission is almost free everywhere. According to the works of Arthur Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes and his friend Dr. Watson lived in an apartment at 221b Baker Street between 1881 and 1904. At the time these works were written, such an address did not exist in London. But later, when Baker Street was extended to the north, a house with that address appeared, where the Sherlock Holmes Museum is currently located. Having lived in London for a week, I still didn't manage to see all the sights of this city. Too many museums, too many places to visit, too little time. But my journey didn't end there. Ahead are Liverpool, Blackburn, Chester, and Manchester.

Having fun)

As you all know, London is the architectural capital of the world. A city where you definitely won't have time to be bored) Westminster Abbey, the Palace of Westminster complex with its clock tower, St. Paul's Cathedral, the Tower of London, Trafalgar Square filled with pigeons—this is all the capital of Great Britain. People go there to admire the architecture, walk through the halls of the British Museum and the Tate Gallery, shop for extravagant English clothes, and simply watch the fog-covered Thames from a bridge. It took me a whole day, sometimes even more, to visit just one museum. I lived near Hyde Park and couldn't deny myself the pleasure of going there every day to feed the local wildlife (birds and squirrels). Fortunately, almost all museums in London are free, with the exception of places like Madame Tussauds, the Sherlock Holmes Museum, and the Harry Potter studio. You must go see the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace. But we didn't manage to take a photo with either a Life Guard or a Beefeater. Other entertainment in the English capital hits the wallet hard. A ride on the London Eye costs about 30 pounds (approx. 42 USD). A tour of the Abbey is about 20 pounds. Big Ben, the voice of London, has been showing the exact time since 1859. Construction of the 320-foot clock tower began in 1837 upon the accession of Queen Victoria. At that time, the Parliament buildings, damaged by a fire in 1834, were being reconstructed. The clock designer, Sir Edmund Grimthorpe, an architect and clockmaker, passed away before the 13.5-ton bell was installed behind the four clock faces, each with an area of 23 square feet. As for entertainment... It is definitely worth spending money on a trip to a pub. Surprisingly, the British know how to have fun and relax. And if you want to spend the evening at home, they simply won't let you do it. By the way, hostels are the perfect place for students, especially if you are traveling alone. There are a bunch of other students there looking for part-time work or permanent housing. If you aren't afraid of living in a room with other people, then this is the place for you. If you can't book accommodation online, no worries. You can do it right on the spot. Walking around the city, you will find plenty of offers at a reasonable price. Have fun, guys! http://www.2uk.ru/city/city2
