Über den Ort

St. Mary's Cathedral anchors the Malankara Orthodox Syrian community in central Mumbai.

The cathedral in Dadar stands as the original parish established for the Indian Orthodox Syrian congregation in Mumbai. Consecrated by Catholicos Baselios Geevarghese, the church initially belonged to the Outside Kerala Diocese before the formal erection of the local diocese administered by Bishop Thomas Mar Makarios. It anchors liturgical traditions and community life for long-term residents.

Diocesan operations connect Dadar to regional centres, including the administrative base in Vashi and the Gregorian Community established in Roha. That rural settlement operates under the motto of worship, study, and service, introducing young people to monastic routines and social commitment. Life around the cathedral involves active participation in these charitable networks alongside regular West Syriac rite observances.
