Über den Ort

Wireless Hill Park preserves early maritime radio installations within the suburban landscape of Ardross.

The reserve occupies elevated ground known to the Beeliar Whadjuk Noongar people as Yagan Mia. Federal authorities originally commissioned the station to secure coastal wireless telegraphy for commercial maritime shipping. Civilian operators handled regional traffic until the Royal Australian Navy assumed direct command during major international conflicts, granting naval non-commissioned ranks to resident technical personnel.

Operational transmission relocated inland to Gnangara, leading to the closure of the coastal facility. Melville municipal authorities took over the grounds and preserved the station buildings rather than clearing the hill. Amateur radio groups converted the complex into a telecommunications museum, securing state heritage registration for the surrounding bushland reserve.
