About the place

The regional ethnographic museum preserves trade history and domestic life inside a restored merchant mansion in the Old Town.

The institution occupies the historic mansion of merchant Argir Kuyumdzhioglu in the Old Town. Local scholar and journalist Stoyu Shishkov established the regional museum and served as its sole worker before mayor Bozhidar Zdravkov secured the merchant residence for the collection. Distinct rooms display regional crafts, farming tools, textiles, and domestic interiors that document daily life across the territory.

Beyond the public craft rooms, the site holds musical instruments, sacred objects, and fine art collections from local communities. The museum functions as a working research center with its own specialized library, scholarly records, and photography archive. Long-term residents discover that the building serves academic researchers and preservationists, making it an active archival center rather than a static display.
