The institution chronicled the evolution of public communication, investigative reporting, and constitutional press freedoms.

The Freedom Forum established the institution under the guidance of publisher Al Neuharth, who also founded USA Today. Dedicated to journalism and constitutional protections of free expression, the galleries showcased original print artifacts, broadcast relics, and digital reporting tools. Jerry W. Friedheim devised the name to capture this mission of documenting how reporters gather, verify, and broadcast public information.
