Travellers based in southern districts use Pierrefonds Airport to avoid the prolonged overland drive north to Roland Garros.
Pierrefonds Airport provides regional flight links near Saint-Pierre on the southern coast.
Pierrefonds Airport operates on the southern coast west-northwest of Saint-Pierre. Air traffic here complements the primary hub at Roland Garros Airport to the north. The airfield provides direct transit to southern communes without requiring lengthy road travel across the island. The facility maintains regional routes while keeping passenger flows separate from northern terminals.

Long-term residents relying on regional flights manage their schedules around fewer departures compared to the northern airport. The smaller airfield reduces boarding delays and terminal congestion, but overland transit remains necessary for long-haul intercontinental routes. Ground transport connects the terminal to neighbouring urban districts, making Saint-Pierre and Saint-Louis accessible for arriving passengers.
